Part One: Reading Comprehension. (14 pts.)
A- Comprehension. (7 pts.)
Read the text carefully and do the activities bellow.
Technology has changed people's lives a great deal. Its effect can be seen in every area: in their
clothing styles, in their entertainment, in working life and so on.
There were no televisions in the past. So people used to create their own entertainment. They
used to play games in the evenings. Nowadays, every one just sit in front of the screen: and people
rarely play games anymore.
In the house, the mother used to spend hours and hours doing the cleaning and the washing. But
these days, she has so many electrical appliances in the house that machines do half the work for her.
And while the housewife of the past used to make all her family’s clothes, the modern house wife simply
goes to a shop and buys every thing.
But perhaps the greatest changes can be seen at work. Factories used to employ hundreds of
men to make their products. But now, one or two machines do the task in half the time. And in offices,
clerks used to do every thing by hand and it took them ages to check all their files. Now, in this
technological age, we put everything into disks and all the checking is left to the computer.
