AIR (NOTES)

Grade: 4
I. FILL IN THE BLANKS:
1. Air is a mixture of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and
water vapour.
2. Massive storms that come with a rotating speed of 119 km/hr are called
hurricanes.
3. Air current is set up when warm air rises and cold air sinks.
4. An exhaust is placed near the ceiling of a kitchen to move out the smoke.

IV. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:


1. What is atmosphere? Describe briefly the composition of air.
Ans: The thick layer of air surrounding the Earth is known as atmosphere.
Air is a mixture of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water
vapour. It also contains dust particles, germs and smoke.
2. Differentiate between storm and breeze.
Ans:

6. Ans: Warm air in the surroundings rises and gets cooled by the air
conditioners. The cool air from the air conditioners sinks in and fills the
room. Whereas the warm air from room heaters rise up and distribute
throughout the room. That is why the air conditioners are installed near
the ceiling whereas room heaters near the ground.
