“The previous session highlights the
Instructional Design Framework as discussed
in the General Shaping Paper of the MATATAG
Curriculum. For this session, we will discuss
IDF as applied in the context of MAPEH and
the appropriate pedagogical approaches and

Say: “An instructional design framework is a

structured model that guides the process of
developing instructional materials and
activities’. It provides a systematic way to
organized and implement the instructional
design process – systematic process of
creating, planning, and delivering effective
and efficient learning experiences, ensuring
that educators and instructional designers
follow best practices”.

“as illustrated in the framework, the teaching

and learning process reflects the shared
vision articulated in the revised curriculum,
guided by the K to 10 instructional framework
that encapsulates the Curriculum, teaching
and assessment process”.

Ask: what are the features of the IDF?

Multicultural education in teaching Music

and Arts education”

“Culture-based education is an approach to

teaching according to Burnaford, 2007 is
teaching “through” and “with” the arts
creating relationships between different arts
disciplines and other classroom skills and
subjects”.

Say: “According to Silvertein and Lyne, 2010,

it is a type of teaching grounded in the belief
that learning is actively built, experiential,
evolving, collaborative, problem-solving and
reflective”

Say: “ according to Magno, 2016, this

approach offers ways for learners to create
meaning of what they are learning
(constructivism) and make these learning
demonstrated (Differentiated instruction).

“Discipline-Based art education is an

approach to art education that draws upon
four art disciplines: Art production, Art
history, art criticism and aesthetics.”

Say: “Art history is the study of art from

different historical and cultural contexts, Art
criticism is the analysis and interpretation of
artworks, arts production is the creation of
art and development of artistic skills and
aesthetics is the understanding people justify
judgments.”

“Integrative approach or art integration is an

approach to teaching in which learners are
engaged in the creative processes by
exploring, reflecting, interpreting,
connecting, applying, and demonstrating
knowledge of specific objectives in multiple
content areas. This can be in thematic
approach, collaborative approach, interactive

performances, cultural connections, and

storytelling through art and music ”

“There are different methods and strategies

in teaching music. These are the Orff, Kodaly
and Dalcroze Eurythmics.”

Say: “Orff method is an ingenious approach

that incorporates many different kinds of
learning elements like dance, acting, singing
and the use of various percussion. Created
by Carl Orff. He believes in the power of
children’s mind and their ability to learn
while playing. Like speech and Rhythmic
patterns, body percussion, instrument
exploration, movement and dance and
improvisation”.

“Music and arts content depend on what is

present in the community including in the
creation of the creative works.
Because the curriculum used thematic
approach to unite music and arts, and being
contextualized, Art processes and concepts
are being reflected on the cultural elements,
values, traditions and experience. We study
what is only relevant on the identified or
present artforms found in the locality.
So we focus first on what is the culture
found in the locality or community. In the
context of Philippine traditional arts, arts
exhibit integration drawing from a blend of
cultural influences and reflecting a rich
tapestry of history.”

Ask: What art forms do you see in the

pictures?

Say: “The images below show Dance from

sinulog celebration, architectural design of
thethe church of Sto niño, and the
drumbeaters who accompany the dancers

which composed of different percussion

instruments.”

Ask: What connects the following pictures?

Say: “Art forms could be seen in only one

celebration and that is sinulog. Art forms art
connected to the tradition of the
community.”

“In the current Music and Arts education,

Arts is categorized into two, performing and
visual arts. Music, Dance and theater are
examples of Performing arts while sculpture,
drawing, weaving and painting are examples
of Visual arts.”

“this shows the integration of arts where art

forms are combined with other in the context
of Philippine traditions. Like the Sinulog
festival.”

“In order to guide the teachers in the

teaching of Music and Arts Education, We
start with the identification materials as
content. This stage connects the unpacking
of the curriculum. Determine the materials
through a cultural/heritage mapping from
the locality. After identifying the materials,
engage the learners to talk about it or
analyze it. This is the step where teachers
hook the attention of the learners into the
materials (culture) and the arts. After that,
let the learners take action. This means that
teachers will give learning the learning
opportunities to explore the artworks. Let
them experience doing the art or producing
or performing the art. And lastly, let the
learners reflect on their learning. ”

“there are different approaches in teaching

Physical Education and Health. These are
Collaborative, Integrative, Direct Teaching,

and Teaching Games for Understanding

(TGfU).”

“Collaborative approach encourages the

learners to work together, share ideas, and
solve problems as a team. Examples are
Group discussion or presentation, role-
playing, group planning or brainstorming
and cooperative learning activities”.

“Direct instruction is a teacher-directed

teaching method. This implies that the
teacher presents the information in front of
the class. The teachers should also give
explicit guided instructions to the learners.
For example demonstrations, questioning
and discussions, health modelling, skill
development demonstration and health
experts talk through film viewing or
seminars.”

“Integrative approach in teaching Physical

education and Health that emphasizes on
the integration of Health concepts, physical
activity, and skills that contribute to overall
wellness of the learners. It can be through
Fitness circuit stations, Mindfulness
activities for wellness, Health related Fitness
challenges and Wellness Journal”

“Teaching Games for Understanding focused

upon teaching students tactical
understanding before dealing with
performance of skills. This includes game
appreciation, game analysis, modified game,
skills development and Game play.”

“1. Game Appreciation: This is trying to

introduce the game to the students. This
allows them to explore the game without any
formal rules or structure. Let them play and
experiment because the goal is to have them
explore the game and its dynamics.

“for example, introduce to students to a

game without rules, fostering exploration
and understanding of game dynamics. Here
are the sample activities. Start with a brief
introduction to game’s basic concepts, allow
students to play the game freely, facilitate
discussions to share initial observations and
experiences”

Do: discuss briefly the sample strategy

aligned with the competency

“Game Analysis: Break down the game into

its fundamental components, such as
objectives, rules, strategies, tactics, and
skills. Encourage your students to analyze
what's happening during the game and
discuss their observations. This could
include recognizing patterns, discussing the
roles of different players, and identifying
critical moments in the game”.

Do: discuss briefly the sample strategy

Say: “Modified Games: Create modified or

simplified versions of the game to allow
students to practice the skills and tactics
they've learned. These modified games
should gradually become more complex as
student progress in their understanding of
the sport.”

Do: discuss briefly the sample strategy

aligned with the competency

Say: “Skill Development: After identifying the

key skills required for the game, focus on
skill development. Use drills, exercises, and
activities to help students improve their
individual skills. Tactical Understanding:

games to the actual game. Encourage
students to apply what they've learned in a
real game setting. Provide feedback and
guidance during the game to help students
make better decisions”.

Do: discuss briefly the sample strategy

aligned with the competency

Say: “Now let’s try to identify what

component in the TGfU fall the following
objectives.”

Do: ask the participants to identify the

alignment of the objective to the component
of the TGfU

Do: Simulate how to use TGfU in teaching

innovation game

Ask: “Do you have questions or clarifications

about the pedagogy and strategies in teaching
Physical education? I would like to add that
we can still use other pedagogies and
strategies in teaching the MAPEH grade 7. We
can always choose the appropriate strategies
and use mix strategies meaning blending
different strategies. Just always remember
that the pedagogies are learner-centered
approach.

Say: “now let us know how to assess

learners performance in MAPEH.”

“assessment is an important part in the

teaching and learning process. It helps both
the teacher and learner to reflect.”

“It is important to know the different

assessment methods that will help us gather
evidence of learning. Assessment Methods are
ways to gather evidence of learner’s progress
over time”

“in order to gather evidence of learners’

process, we will use the following recording
methods, Class checklists, class grids, formal
and informal anecdotal records, portfolios,
visual and audio records, and class records.

Ask: what assessment methods and

recording methods are appropriate in
MAPEH? (call participants to answer)

Say: “Another important aspect of

assessment is the giving of feedback.
Research shows that one of the most
influential factors in improving learning is for
the learners to receive clear and specific
feedback while they are learning.”

“and to be able to guide both learners and

teachers in the evaluation of learner’ outcome,
we must create or use rubrics. Rubrics are
useful tools that help teachers make
judgements about the quality of learners’
work’.

“Rubrics is a scoring guide usually presented

in graphic format as a grid. It defines what is
expected in a learning situation.”

Say: “It gives meaning to learner’s level of

performance on authentic assessment tasks”

Do: discuss the two sample rubrics that can

be used in MAPEH.
