Based on Figure Q1, explain how Data evolve to become Wisdom. Give an
example related to any Civil Engineering disciplines to show your
understanding of Figure Q1.

(b) The first stage of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is ‘planning’
where it involves the planning of several management activities, which are
divided into parts.

(i) List four (4) important parts in planning.


(ii) Discuss how these four in (i) can affect the planning of a system

Q3. (a) By using the database, many problems that occur from the usage of traditional
methods to manage data can be reduced or eliminated. Give examples on how
database can solve the problems in traditional methods.

(b) What is a prototype? List and explain three (3) advantages of prototype in
developing new civil engineering system.

Q4. (a) What are the differences between primary key and foreign key in Entity
Relationship Diagram (ERD)?. Briefly discuss the use of both keys in
Database Management System (DBMS).

(b) Figure Q4 shows an incomplete ERD.

(i) Redraw and complete the ERD.


(ii) Develop table for each entity in the ERD and include at least two (2)
sample records for later development of a database system using
Microsoft Access.
