ACTIVITY 1. Creative Mind

Direction: Lots of plastic straws are becoming garbage scattered along the road. If you are going to
collect those plastic straws, what do you think we can do out of these? Draw inside the box the three
things you can do out of these plastic straws.
Analysis

1. What are the things you can make from plastic straws?
I drew a picture frame, a cable strap, and the traditional “sipa” toy made from tansan and
straws.

2. How did you come up with the idea to create such thing?
Well, first, it had to do with practicality. Just like the cable strap, it will ensure the safety and
being organized in our home. Also, I did consider the entertainment and creativity just like the “Sipa”
toy and the picture frame. It can be done as a fun-time.

3. Describe the process in order to create something new out of straw.

Firstly, you need to think what things are needed in your home. Second, try to connect yout
thought and creativity in practicality of what you want to do. Lastly, please do appreciate the trial-
and-error process of doing these handicrafts because it’s fun and enjoying.

ACTIVITY 2. Local Legends

Using a separate sheet write an informative summary of the materials and techniques of the videos.

The video, Las Piñas' Jeepney | Local Legends, highlights the craftsmanship and cultural
significance of the Philippine jeepney, focusing on the contributions of Alejandro Bangcaya, a
seasoned mechanic at Sarao Motors. Bangcaya, renowned for his dedication and skill, explains the
intricate process of making jeepney propellers; a critical component in jeepney manufacturing. The
process involves hands-on metalworking techniques, precision, and years of expertise, showing the
high level of craftsmanship involved in creating these iconic vehicles. Edgardo Sarao, the production
manager at Sarao Motors, shares the challenges the company has faced, including halting production
and downsizing due to increasing costs. Through Bangcaya’s expertise, "Local Legends" celebrates not
only the technical aspects of jeepney production but also the enduring work ethic and cultural pride
behind these Philippine transportation icons.

Learners will complete the “T M L” phrase.

 The Topic was about Materials and the Application of Techniques in Art.
 It Matters because understanding materials and techniques allows artists to express their ideas
in diverse ways, enhances the quality and durability of artworks, and connects cultural and
historical contexts to art-making.
 Today I Learned how different materials (like bamboo, different ingredients, and local
materials) and techniques (such as baking, embroiding, or dother craftmanship) affect the
overall aesthetic and impact of an artwork, and how artists choose specific combinations to
convey their intended message or evoke certain emotions.
