Case study is an important method for gaining rich insights into specific phenomena
within their real life context. Incorporating a case study research design is a useful way to
learn more about certain phenomena in their actual setting. This research design allows the
researcher to explore the complex issue and understand human behavior or social
phenomena.
One of the advantages of case study research is that it enables the researcher to
thoroughly investigate complex phenomena within their real-life context. An example of it is
the case study of Genie Wiley, who was abused and isolated from the outside world for the
first thirteen years of her life. Following her rescue, numerous researchers became interested
in her case and carried out in-depth research to comprehend the effects of extreme isolation
on human development. The leader of the researcher made her live with them to observe her
thoroughly. Her tragic story revealed the impact of important milestone in the language and
development of a person. One more benefit of case study research design is that it helps with
the development of other research. Like the case study of Barbara Ehrenreich, who used her
firsthand experience to study poverty in America. Her published book entitled Nickel and
Dimmed shed light on the struggles of low-wage workers in the United States. Moreover, it
opens the mind of many researchers to research for a solution on how they will fight poverty.
In spite of the many benefits that case study research offers, there are also certain
limits that should be taken into consideration. The study may be biased, it may take a lot of
time, and there may be ethical concerns. As long as researchers are aware of the limits of the
case study research design and adhere to the criteria that govern it, it is still possible for them
to utilize it to contribute valuable information to their respective disciplines.
