INTRODUCTION:
In the experiment, a beam of light is directed at a barrier with two slits,
and the light's trajectory is observed on a screen behind the barrier.
When light passes through two slits, it splits into two waves that interfere
with each other on the other side of the barrier. This interference
creates a pattern of alternating light and dark regions on the screen.
Wave-particle duality:
The experiment demonstrates that quantum systems behave like waves
when they aren't being observed, but like particles when they are. For
example, even when researchers fire photons at the barrier one at a time,
an interference pattern still appears, as if the photons split in two and
passed through both slits. Uncertainty principle:
The uncertainty principle prevents the simultaneous observation of the
wave-like and particle-like nature of matter and energy. For example, if
researchers try to determine which slit a photon passed through by
placing a detector at either slit, the detector will disturb the photon's
momentum and destroy the interference pattern.
What Is Young’s Double Slit
Experiment?
Young’s double slit experiment uses two coherent sources of
light placed at a small distance apart Usually, only a few
orders of magnitude greater than the wavelength of light are
used Young’s double slit experiment helped in understanding
the wave theory of light, which is explained with the help of a
diagram As shown, a screen or photodetector is placed at a
large distance, ‘D’, away from the slits
