MODULE 1
NUMBERS AND NUMBER SENSE: WHOLE NUMBERS AND NUMBER THEORY
Activity
Directions: Encircle the words found in the puzzle. Please answer legibly.
Analysis
a. What are the words found in the puzzle?
b. As a teacher, are these words important to learn in teaching mathematics? Why do you say
so?
The words found in the puzzle are important in teaching mathematics. These words are the
foundation of math. Having knowledge in such makes a learner understand the basic
concept of mathematical problems. This serves as a guide in patterns and structures of
numbers; relationship between the integers and decimals, etc. Number theory also serves as
a building blocks in other math concepts such as algebra and geometry.
Teachers who instil Number Theory in students help the learners to develop critical thinking
in mathematical problems and enhance their cognitive ability.
Application
Whole numbers are the set of numbers that include zero and all the positive numbers that
we count with. Decimals and Fractions on the other hand are not considered to be a whole
number because, these are part of a whole.
Whole numbers are complete, invisible units, while decimals and fractions represent division
in these units. Therefore, they can’t be classified as whole numbers.
Number Theory is branch of mathematics that deals with properties and relationship of
numbers such as integers or whole numbers. It focuses with Whole numbers, Prime and
Composite numbers, Prime factorization, Divisibility rules, LCM, and GCF. These fundamental
concepts lead to complex branches of math.

What insight did you gain from this module?
Module 1 tackles about the Number Theory. It explains the importance of teaching the basic
foundation of math in intermediate grades. This give student’s better understanding in math.
Teaching Number Theory helps students to understand the relationship of whole numbers in other
form of numbers in mathematics—How whole number relate in a set and how these numbers relate
to the other mathematical functions.
Assessment
Directions: Use a flow chart to briefly discuss the following items in your own words.
a. Number Theory
b. Whole Numbers
c. Positive Numbers

MODULE 2
NUMBERS AND NUMBER SENSE: FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS
Activity
Directions: Arrange the jumble word in each number. Read and understand the given clue to re-
arrange the jumbled word. Please write legibly.
1. You will miss one-fourth of your life if you’ll not join in the field trip.
FTICNAOR
Answer: FRACTION
2. Eight pesos and fifty centavos is the suggested retail price for a sachet of coffee.
DICLAMSE
Answer: DECIMALS
Analysis
1. What are the words in our activity?
Fraction and Decimals
2. What is your idea about the words found in our activity? Briefly explain.
Fraction and decimals are both part of a whole. Their value are always less that one. Because of
this, they are not the main focus of number theory. These are part in introduction to algebra.
Fractions and decimals are often use in rational numbers.
Application
A. Give the fraction to each word problem?
1. Joaquin bakes a blueberry pie for potluck dinner. The total pie is cut into 6 equal slices. After
everybody eats desserts, only one slice remains. What fraction of the pie remains?
Answer: 1/6
2.
Answer: 3/8
3. What is the place value of 3 in 4, 279.386?
Answer: tenths
Reflection
What insight did you gain from this module?
a
Fractions represent part of a whole and it is written in a form of , the top part is the numerator
b
and the bottom part is the denominator. Whereas, decimals represents the fractions and always in
power of 10. (Its place value starts with tenths).
Assessment
A. Give the decimal notations of the following fractions:
