Solving Problems

Involving Division of
Decimals and Whole
Numbers
WEEK 7-DAY 1
Review:
Number Puzzle Involving Decimals
Directions: Think of whole numbers
and/or decimals with 1 or 2 decimal
places that will complete the equations
in the box. Find the quotient. Round your
answer to the nearest tenths if
necessary. The boxes with the yellow
color are the ones you need to answer.
Copy this activity in your math notebook.
In order to solve routine and non-
routine problems involving division
with or without any of the other
operations of decimals and whole
numbers, you need to master the
skills on dividing decimals and whole
numbers, dividing whole numbers
with quotients in decimal form and
most importantly understanding
word problems.
In dividing decimals with whole numbers, the
following steps are to be considered:
Step 1: Divide just like dividing whole numbers.
Continue dividing until the difference is equal to
zero.
Step 2: Now put the decimal point in the answer
directly above where the dividend’s decimal
point is placed.
Step 3: Check. Multiply the quotient and the
divisor. The product must be equal to the
dividend.
Read and comprehend the
problem.
Mang Estong operates a computer
shop. Elmer is one of his regular
customers and usually pays
₱128.80 for 4 hours of surfing the
Internet for his projects and
assignments. How much is the
hourly rate at Mang Estong’s shop?
In solving a word problem, all you need to
remember and strictly observe is the Four-Step
Method below.
1.) Understand
- Know what is asked.
- Identify the relevant facts.
2.) Plan – Choose the operation or the formula to
use.
3.) Solve – Perform the strategy.
4.) Check - Verify if the answer is correct.
- State the complete answer.
Let’s go over with the word
problem.
Consider the other
example:

A group of 30 pupils signed

up for a weekend computer
course. They paid a total of
₱425.50. How much did
each pupil pay?

Mang Tomas has 12.5 hectares of land.

He wants to divide it into 2.5 hectares
each for his sons. How many sons does
Mang Tomas have?
A) 3 B) 4 C) 5 D) 6
Read and analyze the sample
problem below. Study the steps
used to solve the length of each
song.

While listening to music, Athena

recorded that the 5 songs in the
radio she was listening took 17.25
minutes of airtime. What was the
average length of each music?
Our lesson is
solving word
problems involving
Division of Decimals
and Whole
Numbers.
Following the steps below, we can solve
the word problem.
1.) Understand
- Know what is asked.
- Identify the relevant facts.
2.) Plan – Choose the operation or the
formula to use.
3.) Solve – Perform the strategy.
4.) Check - Verify if the answer is correct.
- State the complete answer.
Let’s Find the answer of the following
problems.
Dessa, Anne, and Dy
bought materials for their
project worth ₱276.45. The
girls divided the amount
equally among themselves.
How much is each share?

A bamboo pole of 0.80 m long
was cut into pieces, each
measured 0.05 meters long.

were cut?
A.) 38 B.) 23 C. 18 D.) 16
Read and understand the situation
carefully.
During the enhanced community
quarantine, the local government units
made sure that the residents of their
barangays were provided with relief
goods and other essential items to
prevent people from getting sick with the
coronavirus. Each family received the
following items:
Ratios are a helpful tool for comparing
things with each other in Mathematics and
in real-life situations, so it is important to
know what they mean and how they are
used. Ratios occur frequently in daily life
and help to simplify many of our
interactions by putting numbers into
perspective. Ratios allow us to measure
and express quantities by making them
easier to understand.
Read the situation:

As the COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the

local government officials and other
government agencies are still doing their best
to protect the residents of their own
communities from any health risk. This situation
still hinders the people to go back to work to
earn a living. That is why the relief operations
and donation drives are still being provided and
done especially to the high-risk areas. The
following items are just few of the many
distributed goods to every household.
In visualizing ratios of two
quantities, you need to know that a
“part” is a piece of something or one
thing in a particular group, and that a
“whole” represents all the combined
pieces of something or all the items
belonging to a particular group. You can
represent a ratio in three forms, using
the word "is to", using a colon form
“:"and in fraction form. If necessary, you
Please note that we use the phrases "for every,"
"per," and "for each" to express the relationship in
ratios.
Look at the graph. Notice the shaded or colored parts
and the whole figure. There are 5 shaded parts, 7
unshaded parts, and the whole figure is divided into 12
parts.
Read the situation and answer the following
questions.
What have you learned?

A ratio is the
comparison of two
or more quantities.
The number being compared is followed by
the number to which it is compared to. We
also call this ordered pair of numbers. A
ratio can be written using colon between
two numbers or in fraction form, but a ratio
is not a fraction. A rate is a ratio that
compares two measurements.
Answer the given questions:

1. What is the ratio of the number of vowels to the

number of consonants in the English Alphabet?
2. What is the ratio of the number of men to the
number of women in the roster of Philippine
Presidents?
3. What is the ratio of the number of days in a week
to number of weeks in one month?
4. What is the ratio of number of seconds in a
minute to seconds in an hour?
5. What is the ratio of the number of months in a
year to months in a decade?
Write each ratio in fraction and colon
forms. Do it on the board.
Use the sets of pictures to answer the given
questions. Write your answer in your notebook.
What is the ratio of the number
