COURSE / SECTION: CWTS103 / B4
ACTIVITY TITLE: Term-End Essay
CASE STORY TITLE: One’s Commitment (part-1)

PRE-NSTP (EXPECTATION, NOTION AND IDEA)

Give your thoughts on the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals and cite a particular UNSDG
and community concern that it can address where you think Mapua-NSTP students, as a whole, can mainly
contribute in it.
Student’s Answer:

At Mapua University, specifically in the CWTS 03 course, we, as students, have the
chance to contribute significantly to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(UNSDGs). The outlined goals offer a comprehensive framework for addressing global issues
such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. By
engaging in community service initiatives and activities, we can contribute significantly to the
pursuit of a more equitable and environmentally sustainable future for everyone.

One specific UNSDG that aligns with our capacity to make a meaningful difference is
Goal 4: Quality Education. The objective is to guarantee that all individuals can have the
opportunity to receive equitable and comprehensive education and to promote ongoing
learning prospects. In numerous disadvantaged and marginalized regions, the absence of
quality education access continues to pose a significant obstacle. Obstacles like insufficient
resources, inadequate teacher training, and poor infrastructure impede educational progress
and outcomes.

Mapua-NSTP students can contribute significantly to addressing these challenges. We

can help bridge the educational gap in underprivileged communities by getting involved in
educational outreach programs. This may include providing tutoring, literacy programs, and
workshops in core subjects such as mathematics, science, and technology. Furthermore, we
can collaborate with local schools to provide essential resources like books, computers, and
learning materials and assist in training teachers to enhance their teaching abilities.

In addition, by using our technical knowledge, we can develop and execute original
solutions, like educational software and mobile apps, to provide accessible learning options
for students who cannot regularly go to school. Cultivating a culture of learning and curiosity
equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to improve their lives and make positive
contributions to their communities.

Through these efforts, we not only advance Goal 4 but also support other
interconnected goals, such as reducing inequalities (Goal 10), promoting decent work and
economic growth (Goal 8), and fostering innovation and infrastructure (Goal 9). Our
involvement in these activities exemplifies the spirit of the UNSDGs, demonstrating how
collective effort and dedication can drive sustainable change and create a brighter future for
everyone.
