4. Production - Details About Production, Raw Materials,
Factors Used for Production –
Justdial's "production" primarily refers to the creation and maintenance of
their online business directory platform, where the "raw materials" are
essentially the data collected from businesses across various categories,
including contact details, services offered, customer reviews, and location
information; the key factors used in this production process are data
collection through a network of field agents, web scraping, user-generated
content, data cleansing and verification, and advanced algorithms to
organize and present the information on their platform; essentially, their
"product" is the readily accessible and searchable database of local
businesses.

Key points about Justdial's production:-

 Raw Materials:
 Business information from various sources like
websites, yellow pages, direct outreach to
businesses.
 Customer reviews and feedback submitted
through the platform.
 Geolocation data to map business locations
accurately.
 Production Process:-
 Data Collection: Field agents gather
information directly from businesses, while web
scraping tools extract data from online
sources.
 Data Cleaning and Verification: Manual and
automated processes to ensure accuracy of

6
contact details, business categories, and other
information.
 Data Structuring: Organization of data into a
searchable format using relevant tags and
classifications.
 Algorithm Development: Advanced
algorithms to rank and prioritize search results
based on user queries and relevance.
 Factors of Production:
 Labor: Field agents, data entry operators,
software developers, quality control specialists.
 Capital: Technology infrastructure like servers,
data collection tools, software applications.
 Entrepreneurship: The vision and strategy to
develop and maintain the online business
directory platform.

5. Cost - Costing Methods, Strategies Followed by the
Firm-
1. Cost Structure-
Justdial's cost structure can be broadly divided into the
following categories:
a. Fixed Costs
 Technology Development and Maintenance:
Significant costs associated with maintaining and
upgrading their IT infrastructure, including server
costs, software development, cybersecurity, and
more.
 Staff Salaries: Payment to employees in different
departments like technology, sales, customer
support, and management.
 Administrative Expenses: Office space, utilities,
and other general overheads.
b. Variable Costs
 Marketing and Advertising: Campaigns, social
media marketing, influencer partnerships, etc.
These can vary depending on the intensity of the
promotional efforts.
 Transaction Costs: Payment processing fees for
services such as online orders or paid business
listings.
 Customer Support Costs: The variable cost of
providing customer service, particularly with the
volume of calls or issues handled.
c. Semi-variable Costs
 Business Listings: Justdial charges businesses for
enhanced listing services, advertising, and premium
features (like a verified business status, promoted
listing, etc.). The revenue from this varies based on
demand, but the infrastructure and personnel cost
involved in managing listings are semi-variable

 2- Costing Methods Followed by Justdial-

8
Justdial likely uses the following costing methods:

c. Activity-Based Costing (ABC)-

Justdial operates in a service-heavy, digital environment.
Activity-Based Costing can help them allocate costs to
specific activities (like customer support, platform
maintenance, or business listing services) and determine
how much it costs to deliver each service. This method
helps identify inefficiencies and optimize operational
spending.
 b. Job Order Costing-
This method might be used for handling special requests
from businesses for custom advertising, promotions, or
listings. Each “job” could be an individual advertising
contract or a listing service, and Justdial may track costs
specific to these contracts.
c. Standard Costing-
Justdial may use standard costing for certain operational
areas, particularly in its digital marketing campaigns. For
example, setting a budget for the cost of acquiring each
new customer or business listing (cost per click, per ad,
etc.). They can then compare actual spending with these
standards.

and other services like online booking, ordering, and reservations. Justdial's market includes:

 Consumers (Users): Individuals searching for businesses or services such as

restaurants, doctors, hotels, shops, etc.
 Businesses (Sellers): Local businesses or service providers who list their offerings on
Justdial’s platform to get visibility.
 Advertisers: Businesses that want to pay for enhanced listings, ads, or promotions to
reach a broader or more targeted audience.

2. Pricing Methods Followed by Justdial:-

Justdial employs a freemium model for businesses, meaning they offer basic listings for free,
with additional paid features available. The pricing methods can be categorized into the
following:

a. Freemium Model (Basic Free Listings + Paid Services):

Justdial offers free basic listings for businesses. This allows any business to appear on
Justdial's search platform. However, for enhanced visibility, additional features, and premium
placement, businesses must pay for upgraded services. The primary tiers are:

 Free Listings: Businesses can list their information on Justdial without paying.
However, the free listing does not offer prominent visibility, and businesses will
appear lower in search results.
 Paid Listings: For better visibility, businesses can pay for premium listings. This
includes options like:
o Promoted Listings: Businesses can opt to be listed at the top of search results
for specific categories or keywords.
o Verified Business Badge: Businesses can pay for verification, helping them
gain credibility and trust with customers.
o Featured Listings: Premium placement on Justdial’s platform for businesses

8. Business Expansion - Future of Business with Trends
in Demand and Changing Market Situation-

1. Trends in Demand and Changing Market Situation:-

a. Shift to Digital and Mobile Services:
 Increasing smartphone penetration in India and more
users shifting from feature phones to smartphones will
drive more people to rely on digital services for local search
and online transactions. According to a 2019 Statista
report, India is expected to have 760 million
smartphone users by 2025, which will increase demand
for digital local search services like Justdial.
 Mobile-first experience: Justdial has already capitalized
on this trend with a mobile app, but to stay ahead, the
company must continue improving its app's functionality
and user experience, focusing on personalization (using
AI) to provide users with context-specific results.
b. Growing Demand for Local and Hyperlocal Services:
 Consumers increasingly prefer hyperlocal services
(services available in their immediate vicinity). This trend
has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which
made people more cautious about traveling long distances
for services.
 Justdial can capitalize on this growing demand by
partnering with more local businesses, enhancing local
offerings like home services, food delivery, and
healthcare, and expanding its hyperlocal search
capabilities.
c. Online-to-Offline (O2O) Business Model:
 The O2O model has gained traction in sectors like food
delivery, e-commerce, and home services. Justdial has
already integrated elements of this model by offering

13
online ordering, bookings, and appointments, but
there’s significant room for growth.
 Justdial could expand its O2O offerings to a broader range
of industries (such as education, medical consultations,
real estate), enabling businesses to complete transactions
online and offline seamlessly.
 Partnering with larger e-commerce platforms like Amazon
or Flipkart for a local marketplace feature could also be
a future avenue for expansion.
2. Key Business Expansion Opportunities for Justdial:
a. Expanding into Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cities:
 While Justdial has strong penetration in India’s metro cities,
there’s huge untapped potential in smaller towns and
rural areas. As internet penetration increases in these
regions, small and medium-sized businesses will seek
platforms like Justdial to expand their reach.
 Localized marketing campaigns and regional
partnerships will help Justdial tap into these markets and
offer tailored solutions for businesses in smaller cities and
rural areas.
b. Diversifying Service Offerings:
 Justdial can continue to expand its service offerings to
cover niche verticals like e-health, education, travel,
and real estate. As an example, integrating with platforms
like UrbanClap (now Urban Company) for home services or
Practo for healthcare can be an avenue for expansion.
 Investing in new business verticals such as professional
services (lawyers, consultants), online education, and
personalized shopping assistance can create new
revenue streams.
c. Strategic Acquisitions:

14
 Justdial could look to acquire or form strategic alliances with
niche service platforms or startups that have innovative
solutions in areas like AI-powered customer service,
advanced analytics, or local payment solutions.
 For example, Justdial could explore acquiring local
delivery startups, e-commerce players, or review and
ratings platforms to diversify its service portfolio and
strengthen its competitive edge.
d. Expanding Internationally:
 Once Justdial consolidates its position in India,
international expansion could be a strategic move.
Expanding into other emerging markets (such as
Southeast Asia, Africa, or the Middle East) where local
search and digital business discovery is growing could
fuel long-term growth.
 In international markets, Justdial could tailor its offering to
local needs, just as it has done successfully in India.
