Design Engineer

Role Overview
The Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the product development lifecycle, from concept design to
production. This role requires strong technical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and a passion for
innovation. The Design Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and develop products
that meet customer requirements and exceed industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities


1. Conceptual Design and Development:

• Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and customers to understand project


requirements, goals, and constraints.

• Generate innovative design concepts and solutions that address user needs, technical
specifications, and market trends.

• Create sketches, renderings, and 3D models to visualize and communicate design concepts
effectively.
2. Engineering Analysis and Simulation:

• Conduct engineering analysis and simulation studies to evaluate the performance, reliability,
and manufacturability of design concepts.

• Use CAD software and simulation tools to optimize designs for strength, weight, cost, and other
key factors.

• Iterate on designs based on analysis results and stakeholder feedback to achieve optimal
outcomes.
3. Detailed Design and Documentation:

• Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing


and assembly.

• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

• Collaborate with manufacturing and procurement teams to select materials, components, and
suppliers for production.
4. Prototype Development and Testing:

• Build prototypes and conduct functional tests and validation experiments to verify design
performance and functionality.

• Analyse test results, identify areas for improvement, and iterate on designs to enhance product
performance and reliability.

• Work closely with testing labs, suppliers, and external partners to conduct specialized tests and
evaluations as needed.
5. Collaboration and Communication:

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management,


engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

• Communicate design concepts, technical details, and project updates to stakeholders using
verbal presentations, written reports, and visual aids.

• Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and project meetings to share ideas,
gather feedback, and drive consensus.

Skills and Experience


• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Product Design, or related field.

• Proven experience in design engineering, preferably in a product development environment.

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Creo) and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.

• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and additive manufacturing technologies is desirable.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex technical challenges and develop
innovative solutions.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
