Digi locker is an innovative digital storage solution launched by
the Government of India to promote a paperless society and
enhance the ease of accessing important documents. In a world
where technology is rapidly advancing, Digilocker stands out as a
significant step towards digitization, offering citizens a secure and
convenient platform to store and manage their essential
documents. This essay will explore the features, benefits, and

First introduced in July 2015, Digilocker aims to provide a safe and


efficient way for citizens to keep their important documents
online. Users can upload various types of documents, such as
educational certificates, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, and
other identification papers. By digitizing these documents,
individuals no longer need to worry about losing physical copies
or carrying them everywhere. Instead, they can easily access
their files from any device with an internet connection, making it
a user-friendly option for everyone.

 How to use Digilocker app?

To use the DigiLocker app, follow these steps:


1. Download and Install:

Go to the Google Play Store (for Android) or Apple App Store (for
iOS) and download the DigiLocker app.

2. Sign Up / Log In:

Open the app, and if you’re a new user, select Sign Up to create
an account. You’ll need your mobile number or Aadhaar number.

If you already have an account, select Log In, enter your details,
and verify with an OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

3. Link Aadhaar (Optional):

You can link your Aadhaar number to unlock additional document


services. This step is optional but recommended for seamless
document access.

4. Access or Upload Documents:

To view documents from government sources, go to Issued


Documents. Here, you can access certificates, driving licenses,
Aadhaar cards, and more issued by government authorities.

You can also upload your own documents in Uploaded Documents


if you want to store personal files like PDFs, images, or
documents.
5. Search and Download Documents:

Use the search bar to find specific documents from partnered


issuers. Once found, download or view the document directly
within the app.

6. Share Documents Securely:

If needed, you can share documents directly from DigiLocker with


government agencies or private organizations. This can be done
by selecting Share on the document and generating a secure link
or QR code.

7. Sync with Government Services:

DigiLocker can be synced with services like Passport Seva, PAN


services, and more. This enables easier access to important
government documents directly within the app.

8. Logout (Optional):

Once done, you can log out for added security or enable
biometric/fingerprint lock for faster access next time.

How to login into the DIGILOCKER


app?

To log in to the DigiLocker app, follow these steps:


1. Install the DigiLocker App:
Download the DigiLocker app from the Google Play Store (for
Android) or the Apple App Store (for iOS).

2. Open the App:

Launch the DigiLocker app once it’s installed.

3. Sign In Options:

On the login screen, you’ll see options like Login via Aadhaar,
Username/Password, or Mobile Number.

If you already have an account, use your Username and Password.

Alternatively, use your Mobile Number linked to your DigiLocker


account.

4. Enter the Details:

Username/Password: Enter your registered username and


password.

Mobile Number: If logging in with a mobile number, you’ll


receive an OTP (One-Time Password). Enter the OTP to verify.

Aadhaar Number: If logging in with your Aadhaar, you may


need to complete an OTP-based verification linked to your
Aadhaar.
5. Verify and Access:

After entering the correct information, tap on Login.

You will be redirected to the main dashboard, where you can


access your documents.

•HISTORY OF DIGILOCKER
 The history of DigiLocker is as follows:

 Beta version: The beta version of DigiLocker was rolled out in


February 2015.
 Launch: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched DigiLocker on July
1, 2015.

 Storage space: The initial storage space provided was 100 MB,
which was later increased to 1 GB.

 Document size: The maximum file size for upload is 10 MB.

 Number of users: As of May 2024, DigiLocker has over 270 million


registered users.

 Number of documents: Nearly 6.7 billion documents have been


retrieved through DigiLocker, including Aadhaar, insurance policy
papers, PAN records, and driving licenses.

 Documents are considered equal to originals: Documents issued on


the DigiLocker system are considered to be equal to original
physical documents.
