QUADRATIC EQUATIONS
❖ A quadratic equation in the variable x is of the form ax 2+bx+c=0, where a,b,c are
real numbers and a ≠0.

❖ Quadratic Formula: The roots of a quadratic equation ax 2+bx+c=0 are given by

❖ A quadratic equation ax2+bx+c=0 has

1. A passenger, while boarding the plane, slipped from the stairs

at the airport for treatment. Due to this, the plane got delayed by
half an hour. To reach the destination 1500 km away in time, so
that the passengers could catch the connecting flight, the speed
of the plane was increased by 250 km/hour than the usual speed.
Find the usual speed of the plane. What value is depicted in this

2. A motor boat whose speed is 24 km/h in still water takes 1 hour


more to go 32 km upstream than to return downstream to the
same spot. Find the speed of the stream. (A)
