Based from the result of the Division Diagnostic Assessment for Grade 9 learners in English the
overall proficiency level is alarmingly low, with only 1.04% (six learners out of 575) of the students
meeting or exceeding the MPL. This indicates a significant gap in English language proficiency
among the students(98.96%), suggesting that the majority are struggling with the basic competencies
expected at their grade level.

Most Learned Competencies

The competencies that students mastered more effectively were related to the appropriate use of
modal verbs, nouns, and adverbs. These are fundamental language skills, indicating that students
have a solid understanding of basic grammar and sentence structure.
The ability to develop paragraphs that illustrate different text types also ranks high, suggesting that
students are relatively proficient in writing structured texts, which is a crucial skill for effective
communication.

Least Learned Competencies

The least learned competencies reveal substantial difficulties with more complex and abstract
concepts. For instance, tasks like analyzing the validity of evidence and classifying sources of
information are essential for critical thinking and media literacy, yet students struggled the most in
these areas.
The challenges with competencies such as synthesizing evidence and distinguishing author biases
indicate a need for strengthening students' analytical and interpretative skills.
