06 Be a Fallacy Fixer Worksheet

Part I: Find a Fallacy
For this assignment, you’ll select one of the nine fallacies below. Then, you’ll either locate or create an example
of the fallacy and complete the graphic organizer.

 ad hominem  false analogy  red herring

 ad populum (bandwagon)  hasty generalization  slippery slope
 circular reasoning  non sequitur  strawman

Ad populum (bandwagon)

When someone is using ad populum (bandwagon) they make the person looking at the screen, book,
magazine, and even more devices believe that since everyone else is buying it you should buy it too.

This ad for cereal uses Ad populum because it shows a banner that says that this cereal is America’s
Favorite. This is making everyone looking at this think that since everyone in America likes it then they
should do it too, to fit in.

To not use bandwagon, instead highlight the goodness and the healthiness of the cereal itself. By stating
all of the facts in the cereal many people will want it since it would benefit their health in the long run.
