I am Nighat Nasir, resident of a small village, Buchroo, of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Presently, I am
chairman of ‘’ Youth of Aloosa ‘’ a local youth group that strives to work for the deprived and
marginalized section of the society in various ways. I am also a member of recently constituted Forest
Rights Act 2006, Committee of our village that has been entrusted with the duty of verifying the claims
of forest dwellers so that genuine of them would be entitled to forest land rights. I completed my
elementary education till 5th standard from a local school in our Mohalla. Thereafter, I took admission at
a local Govt Middle School where from I completed my education till 8th standard. Then started the
journey of taking a commute of 4kms of daily to reach high school for 2 years. I completed my 10 th
standard with 1st position in school from high school Panzgam, situated a distance of 2 kms from my
village. Due to affinity for maths, I chose non-medical in 11th class, and completed my 12th with 1st
position from Govt hr. secondary school Kralpora, situated at a distance of 1.5kms from my village. In
year 2016, I got admission at Delhi University for honors in economics, however for economic and
security concerns I didn’t join it. Instead, I got enrolled at Amar Singh College Srinagar, where from I
completed my graduation in 2020 with economics and statistics as optional subjects, due to faulty CBCS
curriculum structure: otherwise I would have taken maths as well

Year, 2016 was a momentous year for me, due to various reasons. That year marks the beginning
of my journey of social service. Throughout the valley, the blockade of 2016, shut the schools, students
were sitting idle at homes, with no focus towards their studies. Meanwhile, I made an endeavor, and
started free coaching in the premises of my home. Support from local teachers and youth made it a
success. Additionally, when Art 370, was abrogated on Aug 5, 2019, I again stated a free coaching
academy in association with my colleagues and teachers of adjoining areas. We got great appreciation
from parents and that news got published in a newspaper as well. Board exams were ahead, that step
was need of the hour. Our students performed phenomenally well in the exams.

Delivering rights to the deserving has been the motive of my journey of social service. And I firmly
believe that the mantra for its success is transparency, Accountability, coordination among public,
vibrant support of Youth. In this direction, I filed several RTI’s, mostly in rural development department,
on various issues. My first RTI application sought a report on developmental works undertaken in our
village since 2010. Thereby, many scams and deficiencies came to the lime light. Another RTI was related
to gram Sabha plan which is in fact a plan but excluding the Sabha (people). That list too highlighted the
misuse of funds for personal benefit by few miscreants. I sought information related to PMAY
beneficiaries sent for approval by Panchayat Committee, and I found that many undeserving persons
have been mentioned in the list and deserved ones have been excluded. Then an inquiry into the issue
conducted an on spot verification of those beneficiaries and only deserving persons were sent for
approval.

My hobbies include cooking, playing cricket, teaching. I aspire to become a successful economic
policy maker and professor of economics.
