CHAPTER I: GENERALITIES
This report outlines the structural calculation for the proposed steel structure
related to the exit and entrance gate at GEWAN Island project.
Sheet: 3 of 26
Figure 1: Steel Structure GATE
1.3.1 STEEL
1.3.2 CONCRETE
• Grade 8.8
• Yield Strength fy = 640.0 MPa
• Tensile Strength fu = 800.0 MPa
• Structural analysis and design of the steel gate will be conducted using
Autodesk Robot Structural, where a 3d numerical model will be
provided to check the internal forces and moment.

2.2 DESIGN LOADINGS
2.2.1 SELFWEIGHT
According to AASHTO standards for highway signs and traffic signals the
Impact load for a 40 KMH speed road has been considered
conservatively 8.9KN to be applied at 1.0 m height of the structure.
Sheet: 6 of 26
2.2.3 WIND LOAD
The Wind load has been Auto Generated using Autodesk Robot Software
Wind Speed considered = 38 m/s knowing that the structure is
symmetrical the wind applied on 3 directions as shown below

2.3 LOAD COMBINATIONS
The load combinations for both serviceability and ultimate limit state were
extracted from the code mentioned in clause 1.2.

The loads applied on the footing are the resultant Moment around the
X- Direction (Mx) and the vertical Force (FZ)
3.4.3 Reinforcement
Sheet: 25 of 26
Figure 12: Bottom Reinforcement
Considering the size of footing and the moment results, the Area of Steel
required will be the minimum reinforcement.
Calculation:
The minimum area of steel (As) every 1.0 meter can be calculated as:
As= ρ min x b × d
As= 0.0013×1000×1330=1729 mm²/m
So, the minimum area of steel required for the foundation is 1729
mm²/m.
