Lesson Plan
Science in Grade 3
I. Learning Competencies
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. identify the main parts of the nervous system;
b. understand the basic functions of the nervous system, and
c. recognize the importance of the nervous system in the human
body.

II. Topic/Lesson
 Nervous System

III. Materials
 Diagram of the nervous system
 Brain model or picture
 Whiteboard and markers
 Colored pencils, crayons, or colored pastels
 Worksheets for labeling the nervous system
 Quiz on the nervous system

IV. Procedure
a. Opening Prayer

b. Motivation: On the whiteboard, there are three scrambled

words and three different pictures cut into pieces. Each student
will go to the whiteboard to correctly arrange the words and
pictures.
Examples of the scrambled words:
RABIN (brain)
LANISP DRCO (spinal cord)
SREENV (nerves)
Cut-out pictures: Simple illustrations of the brain, spinal cord,
and nerves.

Question: After completing the activity, class, what words and

images did you arrange on the whiteboard? What do you think
they have to do with the Nervous System?

c. Lesson Proper:
 Introduction to the Nervous System
- So, our topic for this morning is all about the Nervous
System.
 Identifying the Parts of the Nervous System
- Display the diagram of the nervous system on the
whiteboard.
- Point out and name the main parts: brain, spinal cord,
and nerves.
- Ask students to repeat the names of these parts and
identify them on the diagram.
 Understanding the Functions of the Nervous System
- Discuss the functions of each part of the nervous
system:
Brain- controls thinking, feeling, and voluntary
actions
Spinal Cord- a pathway for signals between the
brain and the body; controls reflexes
Nerves- carry messages to different parts of the
body
(use the brain model or picture to explain the different regions of the
brain and their functions)
 Recognizing the Importance of the Nervous System

d. Activity (Hands-on Activity)

 Distribute worksheets with diagrams of the nervous
system.
 Have the students label the parts: brain, spinal cord, and
nerves by using colored pencils, crayons, or pastels.

e. Generalization
 Summarize the key concepts: the brain, spinal cord, and
nerves.
 How each part has specific functions that control and
coordinate the body's activities.
 After doing the activity, I will ask “What do you think
the nervous system is important?
 Why do you think the nervous system is important in
the human body?

V. Assessment
