WORK INSTRUCTION
FOR
CONTROL OF ESSENTIAL
LOSS PREVENTION ITEMS
1 OBJECTIVE
The objective of this work instruction is to ensure proper control of essential LP items
conforming to appropriate standards/specifications and facilitate their availability and use
at site.

4 PROCEDURE
4.1 PROCUREMENT
4.1.1 As and when required, LP at HO shall advise Stores, about the specs of
essential LP items.
4.1.3 The Procurement department will be responsible for the purchase of such
items, as per advised specs.
4.1.4 The procured item will be received by Stores, following inspection carried
out as per work instruction QC/G/3-03-01.
4.1.5 For non standard and project specific LP items, specs will be provided by
Head LP, through Incharge Site LP, and indent will be raised by Site
Store.
4.2.1 On the award of the project, LP coordinator at HO or Incharge Site LP, will
get inputs from P & S, about the peak strength of the project and the
strength of different crafts, etc.
4.3.1 For the issuance of all essential LP items, PM/SM/WM shall make
authorise Incharge Site LP to sign on Store Issue Requisitions.
4.4.1 Safety helmets, with company logo, shall be worn by all persons at all
times, when on job site; however for civil works, PM may declare some
areas where restriction of the safety helmet may not be there.
4.4.3 Safety glasses, with side shields, shall be worn by all helpers of welders.
4.4.4 Proper eye-protection shall be worn by those, who are exposed to flying
objects, dust, chemicals or harmful rays.
4.4.6 Working gloves shall be worn by the workers, when handling objects with
rough surface or substances which could cut, tear or burn the hands.
4.4.8 Ear plugs or muffs shall be worn by the persons working with jack hammer
and the operators of hydraulic rock breakers.
4.4.9 Tennis/open foot wear shall not be worn on the job. Preferably safety
shoes shall be worn by everyone working at site; if there is some
constraint, normal closed shoes may be used.
4.4.11 Long-cuff rubber gloves shall be worn by persons handling hot coatings.
Rubber boots shall be worn by those who work in concrete, mud or
water.
4.4.12 Suitable respirators shall be used when working against toxic or paint
spraying fumes, where necessary.
4.4.13 Safety nets or sheets shall be installed to prevent persons from falling, at
locations where installation/use of other means is impractical.
4.4.14 Persons working at a height of more than 2 meters will wear safety belts.
4.4.15 Life line will be used where engaging of belt is not possible
4.4.16 It will be ensured that all employees are conversant with the correct use
and care of personnel protective equipment (PPEs).
