REPORT WRITING
Template for Report Writing
Your BA/ Thesis Should have be categorized into three parts
1. Preliminary Pages
2. Body of the Paper
3. Appendix(ces)
1. Preliminary Pages: The structure of the preliminary pages should include the following
in the order given below;
COVER PAGE
DECLARATION
APPROVAL SHEET
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
LISTS OF ABBREVIATIONS AND ACRONYMS
TABLE OF CONTENTS
LISTS OF TABLES
LISTS OF FIGURES
ABSTRACT
Note that:
All the preliminary pages must be numbered with lower case Roman Number (i, ii, iii,
iv,…..) at bottom of the page centered except the cover page. No need of numbering the
cover page.
Cover page should be designed in the following way;
University logo
The name of University, College, Department, and Program
(16 font size, Bold, and all capital letters (Caps)
Usually center on the page under the logo of the University
Thesis Topic/Title, 14 font size, bold & all capital letters, and usually
center on the page
The Name of the Author/Investigator and Advisor, 14 font size, bold, all

caps, and center on the page
The purpose of the thesis or research report (14 font size, bold, title case,
and center on the page)
The Date on which the final report is submitted, e.g. June, 2022 and the
City/Town in which the report is submitted, e.g. Bonga, Ethiopia (12 font
size, bold, aligned to the right.
See the sample page given in the next page.
Every title of the preliminary, such as Declaration, Certification, Acknowledgements, others
(14 font size, bold, all caps, center on the page, text under each 12 font size, with 1.5 line spacing
except for Abstract. For the Abstract the line spacing should be 1 and the text should be italic
and it should be one paragraph.)

2. Body of the Paper- The body of the paper should be organized into at least
Five chapters as follows;
Starting from the first chapter to the end page number should be in Arabic number
(1, 2,3,…..) and centered.
Every chapters and their respective titles should be; start on new pages, centered, 16
font size, bold, all caps)
Titles/Topics under each chapter (first heading) should be; Justify, 14 font size, bold,
title case
Sub titles/Sub-topics (second heading and above) should be; Justify, 12 font size,
bold, sentence case
All body of the paper should be 12 font size
The line spacing should be 1.5 for the entire thesis except for abstract (that to be 1)
Use Times New Roman font style for all text throughout the paper including those
on the preliminary pages
There must be margin of 1.5’’ on the left hand side of the page to allow for binding,
and 1’’ on the right side and 1’’ at the top and bottom of the pages throughout the
paper. It will be presented as follow

Appendix-1, Appendis-2, and so on separate page.
