What is Krebs Cycle?

The Krebs cycle, also called the citric

acid cycle, is a series of reactions in
the mitochondria that helps convert
food into energy.
Krebs cycle takes place in the Matrix of the
mitochondria
Preparatory
Stage

Before the cycle starts, pyruvate from

glycolysis is oxidized to form Acetyl-CoA(2c)
Step 1
•A two carbon molecule Acetyl CoA
combines with a four carbon molecule
Oxaloacetate to create six carbon
molecule Citrate
• This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme
Citrate Synthase
Acetyl CoA (2c) Oxaloacetate (4c)

Citrate (6c)
🔴🔴 🟣🟣🟣🟣
Step 2

Citrate(6c) is rearranged into

iso-citrate(6c).
The enzyme Aconitase
facilitates this change
Citrate (6c)

Iso-citrate (6c)
Step 3

Iso-citrate (6c) is oxidized by the enzyme

iso-citrate dehydrogenase and loses a
carbon dioxide molecule, forming alpha-
ketoglutarate (5 carbons). This step
produces NADH.
Step 4
Alpha-ketoglutarate(5c) undergoes
another oxidation by the enzyme Alpha-
ketoglutarate Dehydrogenase ,
releasing another CO2 and forming
succinyl-CoA (4 carbons). Another NADH
is produced
Step 5
The Succinyl CoA(4c) is converted
into Succinate (4c)
by the enzyme Succinyl CoA
Dehydrogenase, generating a
molecule of ATP (or GTP).
ADP ATP
Step 6

Succinate(4c) is converted into

Fumrate(4c) by the enzyme
Succinate Dehydrogenase. This
reaction produces FADH2
Step 7
Step 7

Fumrate(4c) is then converted

into malate(4c) by adding water
and this catalyzed by the enzyme
fumrase.
Step 8
Malate(4c) is oxidized back to
oxaloacetate(4c) by the enzyme
Malate Dehydrogenase, completing
the cycle. This step produces another
NADH.
2xCO2
3xNADH
1xFADH2
1xATP
What is the role of
oxygen in cellular
respiration?
Oxygen plays a crucial role in respiration as it is
the final electron acceptor in the electron
transport chain. This process occurs in the
mitochondria and produces ATP. Without the
oxygen, respiration cannot proceed efficiently
and cells may resort to anaerobic respiration,
which produces less ATP. Oxygen also plays a
role in the initial step of respiration, where it is
used to break down glucose in glycolysis.

Oh let's learn about the
Krebs Krebs Krebs Cycle
This cycle is also known as as as as
citric acid cycle oh Krebs cycle
In the matrix, Acetyl CoA combines with Oxaloacetate
to form a six carbon citrate
Iso-citrate next and that will be the step 2
3rd step the iso-citrate will
oxidized to form alpha-keto
4th step the alpha-keto will undergoes
another oxidation releasing another CO2
to form Succinyl CoA, alright
Oh, let's learn about the Krebs Krebs Krebs
Cycle
The process of the Krebs Krebs Krebs cycle The
products of the Krebs Krebs Krebs Cycle
has 8 step in total oh Krebs cycle
Oh let's learn about the Krebs Krebs Krebs cycle
the process of the Krebs Krebs Krebs cycle the

also called as citric acid cycle
Oh Krebs Cycle
The fifth step is Succinyl CoA and
converted into 4 carbon molecule
and that is called Succinate and the
Succinate is oxidized to form Fumarate
The 7 step is Fumarate converted to Malate
and the Malate is oxidized back to Oxaloacetate
And this is the 8 step of Krebs Cycle or Citric Acid
Cycle, Alright
