A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of arithmetic sequences
The learner is able to formulate and solve problems involving arithmetic sequences in
B. Performance Standards different disciplines through appropriate and accurate representations.
I. OBJECTIVES
The MIS YES – O Club organized “May Pera Sa Basura Program”to help improve the
proper segregation and disposal of waste in the school and to support the World
A. Reviewing previous lesson or
Environment Day. The organization sets a reward of Php 3 per kilogram of plastic waste.
presenting the new lesson
The reward increases by Php 2 for every additional kilogram. How much will a student
receive if he/she has collected 2 kg? 8kg? 10kg?
Guide Questions:
IV. PROCEDURES
1. Is there a pattern in the amount of reward a student can have? If there is, describe it.
2. How is each term found?
3. What is the difference between any two consecutive terms? (5 minutes)
The teacher will post the objective on the board and let the students read it.
Materials needed: Matchsticks, Manila Paper and Pentouch
Guide Questions: 1. Is there a pattern in the number of matchsticks? If there is, describe it.
The teacher will emphasize to the students that the term obtained on the table is an
example of an arithmetic sequence.
(10 minutes)
Let the students define arithmetic sequence using their own words.
After the students have defined arithmetic sequence, the teacher will give its definition.
C. Presenting examples/instances
An arithmetic sequence is a sequence where every term after the first is obtained by
of the new lesson
adding a constant called the common difference.
Example: 15,19,23,27,… the common difference is 4 since 19-15=4, 23-19=4, 27-23=4

D. Discussing new concepts and do we get them? What is the formula in determining the number of matchsticks
practicing new skills #1 needed to form n squares?
Answer: a20=4+(19)(3)=4+57=61
a50=4+(49)(3)=4+147=151
a=4+(n-1)(3)
• Have the students generalize a formula for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence
Answer: an= a1+(n-1)(d)
(8 minutes)
Discuss the formula
The nth term of an Arithmetic Sequence with first term a1 and common difference d is given
by: an = a1 + ( n – 1 ) d
where a1 = the first term an = the last term n = the number of terms d = the common
difference.
Using this formula, we can find the value of any term without evaluating all the previous
terms. (4 minutes)
E. Discussing new concepts and _________________________________________________________________
practicing skills #2
Materials needed: Metacards
Post the problem one at a time.
F. Developing mastery Determine whether the sequence is arithmetic or not. If it is, find the common difference
and the next three terms. Formulate a rule for numbers 1,3,5.
1. 3,7,11,15,19,…

value increased by Php100,000 each year, how much was it worth at the end of 2025? (8
minutes)
Assess students’ mastery of the competencies.
a. Find the missing terms and identify the common difference of each arithmetic sequence.
