    Graduating Summer 2012? The deadline to apply for FREE through the Online Applications for Graduation is February 15 th. The IP Degree Designation Form is not yet online, so you will also need to complete your IP designation once you apply to graduate. Please turn in designations by March 1 st.     Thank you to Dr. Rollins and welcome Dr. Catrombone, School of Psychology! The IP welcomes the newest IP Faculty Representative, Dr. Richard Catrombone, who will now be advising Psychology students who are in the International Plan. He will be replacing Dr. Howard Rollins, one of the key visionaries in the development of the International Plan. We thank Dr. Rollins for his years of service and commitment to the program, and welcome Dr. Catrombone to the IP family!

    Valentines Day Traditions around the World


    Denmark: Customs have people sending pressed white flowers "Snowdrops" to their friends. Men send anonymous joking letters called "gaekkebrev" to ladies. If the ladies correctly guess the male sender, they'll receive an Easter Egg later in year. England: Children sing special songs and then they receive candies, fruits and money in return. Valentine buns are baked with caraway seeds or raisins Germany: Baptism and marriage certificates were presented as form of valentines exchange in past. Japan and South Korea: Valentines Day is celebrated on two separate days: Feb. 14th and March 14th - Feb 14th: Females present gifts to male partners - Mar 14th ("White Day"): Males Present gifts to female partners - April 14th: ("Black Day"): in South Korea, there is an additional 3rd day when the couples spend time together Scotland: Traditionally, the first young male or female you encounter on the streets that day would become your Valentine for that year.

    Get your passports and visas ready. Begin looking for either GT faculty-led or immersion exchange programs or work abroad for upcoming semesters to fulfill the minimum 26 weeks abroad.

    Studying Abroad or Working Abroad for the IP's minimum 26 week international experience requirement? Students going abroad for the 1st and/or 2nd term of their IP international experience must have the term(s) approved. It is highly recommended that you have your program(s) approved a month prior to Phase I registration to be sure that the experience(s) will count for IP requirements and to be able to register for the IP course.     Events around Campus


    EVENT: Ferst Center for the Arts presents Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano Sunday, February 12 at 5 p.m. Enjoy an evening of music with the Grammy Award winning group Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, commemorating its 50th anniversary and the bicentennial of Mexico with a program titled VIVA MEXICO! The concert tells the story of Mexican independence through mariachi favorites including Viva Mexico, Mexico Lindo, La Bamba, Ave Maria, La Cucaracha and many more. A reception co-sponsored by the GT Office of International Education and GT Hispanic Initiatives will be held for Georgia Tech students at 4 p.m. at the Ferst Center. The reception is free for all GT students attending the concert. Georgia Tech Student tickets for the concert are available for $10 in the Student Center Box Office. Students may purchase up to 2 tickets at $10 each. Please show Buzz Card for ID. For more information call the Box Office at 404-894-9600.

    Spring 2012 International Coffee Hour


    International Coffee Hour gives students the opportunity to enjoy coffee, culture, and conversation as well as make new friends, both from the U.S and abroad. International Coffee Hour will take place in the Tech Rec Center from 6-7pm and will be hosted on a monthly basis. The event is co-hosted by OIE and the Student Center Programs Council. Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm Dates: February 13th, March 12th & April 9th. Location: Tech Rec, Student Center, 1st Floor

    Culture Tech
