II. CONVERSATION 4min
Suppose you’re Jack. Read the dialog with an appropriate tone(语调) and pay
attention to the underlined words.
Collins is trying to mediate the conflicts.
C: I saw you and Bella arguing in the hallway earlier. Is everything okay between you two?
J: I don’t know what her problem is. We have the same position, but she seems to think
she’s my boss.
C: What do you mean?
J: She’s always watching over me, telling me what I’m doing wrong, and she even gives me
work to do.
4
C: Maybe she thinks she has seniority over you since she’s been with the company longer
than you have. Plus, she’s a few years older than you. But she still shouldn’t be bossing
you around.
J: I just don’t know what to do.
C: Don’t worry, let me handle it. I’ll talk to her and remind her to concentrate on her own
work and not to bother you. Next time, if she tries to delegate (委派 ) a task to you, just
tell her that she has to speak to me first and get my approval.
J: Thanks. I really appreciate that.

Learn the words and expressions in detail on the next page.
