One time I had to do something that I didn't want to do was when I had to write a
long essay for my school assignment. I didn't like writing essays because they
were boring and difficult for me. I had to research a lot of information, organize
my ideas and follow the rules of grammar and style.
• I felt relieved and proud when it was over. I was glad that I finished the task and
submitted it on time. I was also proud that I overcame my reluctance and did my best. I
learned a lot from the process and improved my writing skills.

People can motivate themselves to do things they don't like by setting goals, rewarding
themselves and seeking support. Setting goals can help people focus on the purpose
and benefits of the task. Rewarding themselves can help people celebrate their
achievements and enjoy the outcomes. Seeking support can help people get advice,
feedback and encouragement from others who can help them.

Something you want but you can not have

I would like to buy myself a car. This will be my first vehicle, because I
have just got my driver’s license. I like traveling with comfort to work
and around the city, but the heavy traffic during rush hours makes public
transportation really inconvenient for me. However, I am very conscious
about the environment and wouldn’t like to spend money on a
conventional automobile that will only contaminate the air we breathe.
Therefore, the perfect car for me would be an electric one – ideally, a
Tesla.

Teslas cost substantially more than usual petrol cars. Their price
fluctuates around 80,000 – 100,000 USD.
Unfortunately, I can’t afford this car right now – I have just graduated
and entered the job market with not the highest ever salary. Therefore, I
will wait for a couple of years, until my pay improves. I will also have a
better range of car models to choose from.

A time you was surrounded by nature

Let me tell you about a time I was surrounded by nature. It was 4
months ago. I visited Cuc Phuong national park. It is a very large park
with a variety of animals and plants. The natural scenery is beautiful.
There are a lot of trees. I can walk around, listen to the birds singing,
and gain knowledge about trees.
I really enjoyed our day because it brought me real close to a very
peaceful and natural environment, away from the busy city life.
Nowadays everyone likes to be in nature. Because of busy work they do
not get time to come out of their office and houses. So they like to be in
nature.
There are some simple ways we can help the environment. It is most
important to save water and energy at home. We should use water
mindfully, turn off the lights when not necessary, and switch to energy
efficient options.
A time I laughed a lot

Generally, I don’t laugh a lot. But, today, I’m going to talk about a time
when I couldn’t stop laughing. Last Friday was my close friend Nam’s
21th birthday. He is my childhood friend. We’ve been together for
almost 10-12 years. As it was a special occasion, we wanted to celebrate
it differently. But, none of us was interested in going to restaurant and
partying there so I invited Nam 3 other friends to my room to spend
some quality time together.At around 7 pm, everyone was there. Nam
suggested watching an Indian movie named Three Idiots. The story
talked about 3 friends and their struggle to fulfill the dreams of their
parents. The main objective of the film was to highlight a major problem
of the Indian society. It is parental pressure. Most parents don’t let their
children choose a career. They just want them to become engineers or
doctors. There were a few serious scenes in the movie, but, in general,
the whole film was full of comedy. We laughed a lot that day.
You know “Laughter is the best medicine.” And, now, the health
benefits of laughing are scientifically proven. Laughter reduces stress
levels and boosts our immune system. It can bring a positive change in
our life. In short, we should laugh and smile daily to lead a happy and
healthy life.

The last time I was on my own was when I was traveling around the

A thing you don’t want to do

Last year on my friend’s birthday I tried to give a public performance as

a singer. Although I have been singing since my childhood, I always shy
away from public performance. However, on the occasion of my friend’s
birthday, I said yes because my friend insisted on me. I didn’t want him
to feel sad on this birthday. Therefore, I said yes, but I was not
confident. My start was good, but in the middle of the song, I went blank
and forgot the lyrics. Although I had the write-up of the lyrics with me, I
didn’t have the confidence to carry on.The crowd gave me a big round
of applause to cheer me, but continuing with the performance was
impossible for me.Seeing my confuse, one of my friends had come and
started singing from the point I left. Later on, I joined him, and
somehow we finished the performance.When the music stopped, I had a
sigh of relief. Initially, I felt embarrassed, but later on, I felt light. No
doubt I gave a terrible performance but at least I had tried.
Team work
Let me tell you about a time I worked on a team. Just last month we had
a project at the university, There were 15 people in the team.
We had to do research on environmentally friendly air transport; looking
at ways to reduce noise and fuel consumption, and the emission of CO2
into the atmosphere.I had opportunity to interact with different people. It
was very challenging and very interesting for me.We used
teleconferences to discuss the progress of the project and any problems
we encountered, share research results and information, and discuss
possible solutions and areas of further investigation. I was working
closely with one of my senior professors here at the university who is
very experienced in this field of engineering. Overall, I think I learned a
lot about collaboration, as well as gaining some useful experience in
negotiating and discussing.
A time you got some good news

I recently heard some really good news regarding a close friend of

mine. It turned out she had been accepted into a prestigious graduate
program at a top university. I heard this news about a week ago when
she called me to tell me about it.

I knew that she had been working hard for months to get into this
program, so her acceptance did not come off as a surprise. She had been
studying for the entrance exam and preparing her application for months.
Besides, she had also been networking with people in the field and doing
her research to make sure she was a good fit for the program.

Nevertheless, when I heard the news, I was happy. I took great pride in
her for all the dedication she had put in and for achieving her goal. Only
a few other people, including myself, knew how much this meant to her.
She had been dreaming of entering this program for a long time, and I
was so glad that she had finally realized her dream.

In fact, this was going to open up a lot of opportunities for her as she
was going to be able to learn from some of the most brilliant minds in
the field and make connections with people who could help her to
advance in her career. It was definitely a moment worth celebrating.
Talk about a challenge you encountered

Here, I would like to speak about the challenge that I faced happily. It
was to get slim. I was not aware that I had put on weight. However, one
of my friends challenged me to reduce my weight within one month. I
accepted it and did hard for it. I started to get-up early and after
refreshing myself, I did running, yoga ..., I stopped eating junk
food which I used to eat frequently. Though it was a hard task for me but
I had to do it to win the challenge. With continuous efforts, I reduced
much weight and proved myself.
My friend was surprise to see me because she had never expected that I
would make great efforts to get fit. Now, I look younger than my age.
So, this happened due to the difficult challenge that I faced in the past.

Last summer, I went to Cua lo with my family. We went there by car, it
is very far from my house, it is about 400 km, so we were very tired, but
at one we felt better when we saw the sea.

Cua lo beach is really interesting, the beach is very large, flat, and it has
a lot of sand. Waves are very strong, you will be very excited when you
play with it. There are a lot of beauty spots, and good seafood there

We stayed in Binh Minh hotel. It was a very nice and comfortable hotel,
it’s also rather near the sea.

The weather was hot and sunny all day. The sea was cool and clear,
because it was very windy in the afternoon. We went swimming twice a
day. The food was extremely delicious but not very expensive.
 We took a lot of Photographs of the sea, bought a lot of seafood

In my life, I have visited many places. Each of them has some certain

Last weekend I visited a famous historic architecture in Hanoi. It is the

Temple of Literature. It took me only 5 minutes to drive from Guom
Lake. As the very first university of Vietnam, it is still used for hosting
ceremonies, contests and festivals nowadays.

This temple does not only keep the proof of our history, but
also represents the enthusiasm and dramatic changes in the
Vietnamese educational system. Just a few walks from the main gate,
people can already feel the ancient atmosphere. It draws the attention
of many visitors from all around our country, and even foreigners. I
often visit the Temple whenever I have an exam, or to apply for a job.
After each visit to the site, it seems like all the burdens and stresses are
relieved, and my heart will be fulfilled with calmness and joy.

As a Hanoian, I am proud that we can still keep such a beautiful historic

place like The Temple of Literature. I also feel the responsibility to
protect the site for the next generations.

Describe a Sporting Event you Attended : 2 minutes

Last weekend I attended a football match with my father.This was the
final match between Hà Nội F.C (football club). and Viettel F.C. Both
teams performed very well in the early stages and this was the time to
battle in the final match of the competition. A large number of crowds
gathered in the stadium to enjoy the match and some of the national
leaders were also present at the event. The game was set to start by 4.30
pm. But a majority of the audience entered the stadium around one hour
before the game began. In fact, a large number of the crowds started
gathering from noon so that they could have a seat near the playground
to watch the match closely. The atmosphere in the stadium was so
exciting. Everyone was shouting, whistling, cheering, and just making
noise. I was cheering for Ha Noi F.C and my dad was whistling so
loudly that people started looking at us. After the game, we stopped at a
snack shop and got some drinks and a snack. I think I’ll ever forget that
game.

Last summer, My friends and I went to Da Lat. This city is famous for

London. I asked the taxi driver to take me to the London Bridge

nervous. I didn't know where to go. But someone helped me. I
asked him where I should go and he helped me. I saw the
London Bridge, finally! It was not a nice experience.

have the strongest impression. As far as I remember, It was 4 months
ago. I and three other students in my university class had to make a
presentation about environment pollution . In the assigment, the teacher
asked us to find out the exact number of deaths from environmental
pollution in Vietnam in 2022. We were all worried because It was really
difficult question. To answer the question, we had to consult many
documents at the library and on the internet. We also asked other
students in university for materials. After 2 weeks, we found the source
of the material and compiled it. In the end, our presentation was highly
appreciated and got high score by the teachers. Looking back on that
memory, I feel happy and I think I will never forget it.

I’m not a risk person. So, I have had very little experience of taking risks

we should not just avoid using the internet. Instead, we should learn how to use it
properly. In detail, we should spend less time on the internet and more time
outside. Besides, we should motivate ourself to read more books rather than
spending time on the Internet.

In my life I have experienced many times I’m in hurry. Now I’m
going to tell you about one of them. It happened just last weekend.
My friends and I had a dinner at a restaurant. We had a nice meal
and great time together. When I was on the bus coming home, I
realized that I left my bag at the restaurant. I was really scared after
noticing that because the bag contained many important and
confidential stuffs such as: a credit cart, tax return form, ID card,
my student card...and so on. Then I was very hurry to get back to
that restaurant.On the way I worried so much and I wondered
what would happen with my bag. But fortunately the bag was
collected and kept securely by the waiters. Looking back this

him by giving all my pocket money to him. So, he could be able to buy books. By
helping him, I could see the smile on his face which brought me great joy. Since
then, we have been best friends. I realized that some things can give more
happiness than eating chocolates. We should motivate others by praising for their

tell you the time I had to learn a new software in my last job in a
hotel. The manual had over 100 pages. To be honest, I found it
challenging. It was very different from the software I used to work
with before. But I did not give up. I studied the manual hard. I asked
 my co-workers for help. Finally I was successful. I could use the
software quickly and It made my work easier. I think It is never late
to learn a new things. Learning new things help us catch up with the
change and improve ourselves.

In my life, I have undergone many times that I had to try my best to achive a goal.
Each of them has certain meaning to me. Now I’m going to tell you one of them.
When I was still a high school student, like many the other students, passing the
University entrance exam to get into my dream University was my main goal. But
for me, I felt that the pressure was even higher since I had chosen Hanoi Medical
University – one of the top Universities in Vietnam. There are thousands of
students taking part in that exam every year so it is highly competitive.

In order to compete with the other candidates, I spent hours in the library studying.
I had to stayed up late and got up early in the morning to learn. It was a hard time
but I didn’t feel tired because becoming a doctor was one of my greatest desires.

With all my effort, I passed the entrance exam with outstanding results and
became a medical student. When I received the results, I was so happy that I burst
into tears. Finally I achieved one of my big goals in life.

Now I will tell you about a time I received a gift. Last year, my brother gave me an
iphone on my birthday. It is a smartphone designed by Apple. It’s handy,
convenient and has many functions. I have downloaded many apps and games to
my iphone. I often use it to surf the Internet, learn English, listen to music and read
e-news. Especially, Google Maps is extremely useful when I need to look for a
location orget lost. I also make free phone calls and send free text messages by
using some applications. I feel so excited and joyful. This gift is not only special
but also very useful. People in Viet Nam give presents on many occasions such as
on birthday parties, opening ceremonies, on women’s day, teacher’s day, when a
baby is born and so on. People give presents to show love, express their feelings,
say thank you, sorry or share happiness with friends and relatives. Some common
gifts in Vietnam are flowers, clothes, and books. Last week, I gave some flowers to
my mother on her birthday. She was so thankful and surprised.

I was born and raised in this city so I guess I know every corner of the city. There
is one tall building that I am particularly interested in, it’s a hotel named Daiwoo
that I had the opportunity to visit a while ago.

The hotel is situated downtown, in a very busy area. This is a popular

accommodation for tourists visiting the city and it also serves as a venue for
weddings and big conferences.

It was constructed about 10 years ago, it’s a 30 story-building and the outer of the
building is made of glass. There are a lot of flowers and plants in front of the hotel
so it really caught my attention the first time I saw it.

I have attended a wedding there once, all the halls and rooms are very well
equipped with modern facilities: elevators, big-screen TVs, beautiful furniture, etc.

All the walls are filled with beautiful paintings from local artists. So, walking
along the hallways made me feel like I was at an art gallery. Also, there are a lot of
flowers both inside and outside, which make the place very lively.

science fiction books so I love the way that the author describes the
whole magical world with the magic school, Hogwarts. Thanks to this
book, I realized that determination and effort play essential roles in
achieving my goals. Since then, I have always worked hard to overcome
all obstacles and challenges in my life. Reading this book not only helps
me to relax after a long day of work or study but also cheers me up
