BACKGROUND

DAV, the largest Non-profiteering Educational Society, understands well the need and importance of
harmonious, vibrating environment, state of the art infrastructure, mature and experienced faculty, a
dynamic Educational System which will meet the challenges of Today and take care of Tomorrow.
The DAV Management’s ambition to chase perfection has created a distinct place for various
institutions set-up by the Trust.

Dr. Daulat Ram Bhalla, DAV Centenary Public School, Batala, a CBSE affiliated English medium, Co-
educational Institution, the only Public School in Batala, directly managed by DAV College Trust and
Management Society, New Delhi, has made a landmark contribution in enlightening and empowering
pupils since its very inception in 1985. DAV College Trust and Management Society is the soul of
School which imparts dynamism and buoyancy to it. The School progresses while being guided by
Sh.Punam Suri Ji, himself a renowned educationist of great caliber, a dynamic leader, helped by his
apex body of Vice-Presidents, Secretaries and Directors; it has led the pupils from Mediocrity to
Excellence, Regimentation to Self discipline, Unhealthy Rivalry to Supportive Competitiveness and in
brief “I can’t” to “I can”. Highly qualified and deeply motivated teachers are the lifelines of the
School. An active student body, dedicated teachers, supportive parents and an involved management,
form the backbone of ever-growing reputation of DAV Centenary Public School, Batala.

Infrastructure plays a vital role in acquiring the real essence of education. The school was started in
the college house at S.L. Bawa DAV College Batala and land for the present building was donated by
Late Shree Pyara Lal Bhalla S/o Dr. Daulat Ram Bhalla to commemorate his father’s memory.

With its sprawling campus, embellished with architectural grandeur and sylvan surrounding, it stands
in silence – a mute witness to the hordes of youngsters with dreams in their eyes, looking to the
future with hope and aspiration.

senior secondary school is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi (Code No.1630070).

Dr. Daulat Ram Bhalla DAV Centenary Public School, Batala is the only public school in the city, no
other public school has got this advantage which is directly managed by DAV College Trust and
Management Society, New Delhi.

The school campus is spread on 3 acres of land having 74 classrooms covering 2350 students.

C0-SCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES

Keeping in mind the Multiple Intelligence Approach and the fact that each individual is unique, efforts
are made to tap the latent talent of the students right from the initiation. The school calendar is
designed in such a way that a rich gamut of co-curricular activities is woven with academics. The
House System channelizes the fresh flood of talent every-year in novel fun-filled Inter-House
Competitions as Declamation, Debate, Poem Recitation, Quiz, Painting, Rakhi making, Rangoli making,
Mehandi Competition, Toran Making, Diwali decoration and the like in order to provide a platform to
the students, to strengthen, enrich & polish their individual talents.

Not forgetting its obligation towards society, the school performs the role of a Social Crusader, in
sensitizing the society towards various social issues like Female Feticide, Women Emancipation, Brain
Drain and Preservation and Restoration of Earth's Beauty in its Annual Day celebrations and the
Annual Exhibitions, which are always theme based.

• For 1st Onwards, Oral will be held in all Subjects.
• 1st onwards Entrance test in these Subjects Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, English and
Hindi are held.
• Preference will be given to real brothers/sisters.
• Admission to XI shall be based on CGPA/ Board results.
• No Admission will be in X and XI except outside transfer.

PROMOTIONS

• Nursery to II: Promotions will be based on regular evaluation of class assignment and projects.
• III to X: Promotions will be based on Formative and Summative Assessment.
• Only grades will be awarded from classes Nursery to X.

ETIQUETTES & COURTESIES

We strive for excellence and to achieve the virtue of excellence, the first priority is given to the quality
of discipline. Discipline is a vital quality while a student should posses and chervil from early
childhood. Each and every student has to abide by the disciplinary framework of the school.

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

Parents Should —

• Co-operate with the school in enforcing regularity and discipline in the children that they
prepare their lessons at home and take active interest in the activities of the school.
• Help the child to bring the required books and exercise books daily to the school. These should
be properly covered with brown paper, with the name, class written with a pen. The brown
paper should be changed when torn or untidy.
• Check the child's School Diary and take the writing of the teacher(s) seriously.
• Encourage the child to talk to you in English. English speaking is a must in today's society and it
can be learnt only if this language is used by the children even at home.
• Help the child to come to School in proper uniform. Make sure that his/ her shoes are properly
polished.
• Send an application well in time in case the child has to remain absent from the school.
• Teach the child good etiquettes and manners.
• Teach the child sense of responsibility by giving him/her some responsibility at home.
• Attend the parent / teacher meetings to ensure child’s progress in school.
• Take prior permission from the principal before leaving the school.
Parents should not —

• Take appointments with doctors during school hours.


• Go to the class rooms to see the child for handing him/her over anything. Such things should
be left with the gate peon who will take it to the Principal.
• Insist on taking their ward during school hours. He/ she may be kept at home if his/her
presence is required there.
• Should not send the students affected by infectious diseases or exposed to such diseases in
their homes before they complete the quarantine period before rejoining the school. This
should also be indicated on the medical certificate.
• Criticism of a student’s teacher or of the school in his/her presence. Such criticism lessens a
student’s respect for his/her teacher.
• Give any money to the peons/ ayas. If in emergency this has to be resorted to, please insist on
its receipt from the class teacher through the school diary.

Some other Important Instructions

• If you have any serious problem with your child at home come to us, perhaps we can solve it
together.
• Own the school as yours and any problem concerning education of your child be brought to the
notice of the class Teacher/ Principal without hesitation.
• The School does not believe in corporal punishment to the child for indiscipline, for not doing
the work regularly or even misbehaviour or serious misconduct. As a practice a note is sent to
the parents in the Diary as a corrective measure in all such cases. In case of habitual
delinquency the School will resort to fine and in an extreme case the parents may be requested
to withdraw such children from the School.
• Parents please ensure that all articles and personal belongings of the child bear his/her name,
class, section etc. The School will not be responsible for unmarked articles claimed by a wrong
person. Also if lost articles are not claimed within a week, the School will not be responsible for
them.
• A minimum advance notice of 24 hours in the form of a written application to the office is
imperative for issuing any certificate. Such certificates are, however, issued only during the
working hours on class days after verifying the clearance of all dues.
• Birthdays are celebrated with a difference in our school. No Birthday celebrations are allowed
in the school. On the occasion of birthday of your child you can give a good book for the school
library, or send a plant to enhance the greenery of the school or donate something for the
slum area children.
• The school management, Principal and the staff will not be held responsible in any way for any
accident or mishap-taking place outside the school premises during the school hours or while
going back home by bus or any other vehicle.

HOUSES

All the students of the school are divided into 4 houses. MAHATMA HANS RAJ, SWAMI VIRJANAND,
SWAMI SHARDANAND, SWAMI DAYANAND. The school organizes difficult activities on house basis
according to school calendar. Each house has a house incharge (a teacher), a house captain (a
student), vice captain (a student). Houses maintain overall discipline in the school.

VAN ROUTES

We have buses running on all major routes.

VAN RULES

• The vans will not wait for the late comers.


• Students will be held responsible for any damage to van caused by negligence or vandalism.
• Unruly behaviour like shrieking and shouting is prohibited. Courteous behaviour is expected at
all times.
• Under no circumstances will children be allowed to board another van to fulfill social
engagements.
• The routes of the school van are drawn up and parents should consult the school Transport in
charge for necessary details.
• Misbehaviour in the school van can lead to withdrawal of van facility by the school authorities.
• It is also requested that any issue/problem related to school/transport may be discussed with
the school authorities/transport in-charge in the school only.

STUDENT RULES
OVERVIEW
Discipline, the gist of life is inevitable for the success of an organization. It costs nothing but pays rich
dividends. A school is one place where the seeds of Discipline are sown in a child. Here, at DAVCPS,
we make every possible effort to make our students imbibe this precious virtue as an integral part of
their personality. So as a part of this prestigious institution, it becomes obligatory on the part of every
student to adhere to the rules and regulations of the school.

Upholding Discipline
Self-discipline is the forte of the school
• The school begins at 7:50 AM in summer and 8:50 AM in winter for students of classes I-XII. All
students are expected to reach school before the bell rings.
• After arrival time school gates will be closed and no entry will be permitted.
• Reporting time for students of classes Pre Nursery is 9:00 AM in Summers and 10:00 AM in
winters and reporting time for students of classes Nursery to UKG is 8:30 AM in summer and
9:30 AM in winter
• Those who are habitually late, they will be penalized.
• School uniform is a discipline in itself and should be adhered to by all students. Students are
expected to wear the proper uniform as specified by the school and in proper manner.
• Students are advised to keep their classrooms / school building / campus neat and clean.
Waste material and leftovers must be thrown into the dustbins only.
• Students should observe polite civil behaviour. Shouting, bullying or use of foul language is
forbidden.
• Under no pretext should a student miss any teaching / games / activity period. In case a
teacher is absent alternate arrangements are made by the time table in charge.
Warnings:
The following disciplinary measures can be adopted by the school:

• Communication to the parents will be given if the students is absent for 2 days.
• In the first instance, a student will be warned for missing classes, reporting late to class,
constantly interrupting the teaching process and indulging in rude and unacceptable behavior
in the class room. The concerned teacher will report to the class teacher for detention during
break.
• Parents will be called to the school if a student indulging in serious offences like bunking,
destroying or damaging school property, bursting crackers, using unfair means in the
examinations, disobedience and violence in any form. Such a student will not be allowed to
attend any programme like picnics or outings.
Attendance / Leave / Absence
• Student's leave has to be approved by the appropriate authority.
• Medical certificate is necessary in case of absence for more than three days due to sickness.
• Repeated absence without leave or unexplained absence for more than 10 consecutive days
renders the student liable to have his/her name struck off the rolls. Re-admission may be
granted only on payment of fresh admission fee.
• It is compulsory for students to complete 80% of their attendance in the academic year to
make them eligible to appear for their final examination. The percentage, however, could be
relaxed on medical grounds.
• Mandatory minimum attendance for classes IX - XII is 75% as per CBSE guidelines.
• Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, disobedience or defiance of authority, lack of sufficient
improvement in studies and conduct even after warnings or conduct injurious to the moral
tone of the school are sufficient reasons for expulsion of a student.
• Appreciation Certificates are awarded to students of classes Pre Nur - XII for maintaining 100 %
attendance throughout the academic year.
• Only Security is refundable within 45 days directly after leaving school.
Behaviour / Deportment / Speech
• Keep your class room clean; throw waste paper(s) into the Waste paper baskets only.
• Be ready to pick up good habits and shun bad ones; learn the social manners and prepare
yourself
• Study diligently and attentively in the class room, never waste your time while at School.
• for healthy citizenship in a democratic society.
• Be courteous, respectful and considerate to the parents, teachers, visitors and the school-
mates.
• Always be thankful. "Please and Thank you" are the key words in human behaviour; adopt
them as a matter of habit.
• Be ready to lend a helping hand at home to parents, brothers and sisters, at School to teachers
and companions.

School Property

• Look after School property


• Help to keep it clean and avoid all pencil/ ink marks on the walls and furniture.
• Any loss or damage caused to the School property shall have to be made good by the students
responsible for it.
• Any damage / breakage to the school property by the student will have to be borne by the
student's parents/ guardians.

Students should not —

• be late for the School.


• bring objectionable literature.
• writing or drawing anything on the walls / school furniture / library books.
• Scribbling or writing anything on the school uniform.
• bringing costly or undesirable articles to school like Cell Phones, CDs, Video Cassettes,
Cameras, costly watches and gold ornaments. The school authorities will not be responsible for
such loss.
• bring any equipment / material which may cause injury or hurt others.
• indulging in uncivilized behaviour or using abusive language.
• Bullying or using any form of physical / emotional violence against a fellow student or any
member of the staff.
• bursting crackers or throwing colour on one another within or near the school premises.
• Using unfair means during a test / examination.
• indulging in any misbehaviour / misdeed directly or online which could be derogatory for the
institution or any person.
SECURITY
Security for the outgoing students and school leaving of any class can be had only within three
months after the declaration of board results.
