INRODUCTION

• The WHO has released a survey that about 1.5 million people die from road accidents and one of the major
cause for these incidents is drowsiness while driving. This incident may occur when the driver has not slept
enough or he may have drunk alcohol or some drugs. And hence for our government it has became a huge
task and difficult condition for preventing such road accidents.

• Since the drowsiness has been becoming a major cause for these road accidents these causes may be
reduced by a drowsiness alarm system or drowsiness detection system. These systems may make note of the
physical condition of the driver while driving using the cameras installed in it and will alarm and monitor them
when they are undergoing any psychic condition to get asleep while driving.

• These systems may alarm them while they are undergoing any physiological condition to get asleep.
These systems would mostly make note of their physical conditions like their eye status, their mood to get
asleep etc.

Drowsiness while driving is a significant cause of road accidents worldwide. To

mitigate this risk, we introduce the concept of Eye Blink Glasses, an innovative
wearable technology designed to detect driver drowsiness and prevent
accidents. These glasses utilize embedded sensors to monitor the driver's eye
blinks and alert them when signs of drowsiness are detected.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In this project the driver assistance system called as the drowsiness
detector is presented in order to reduce the number of road accidents caused by
driver fatigue and improve road safety.
This system treats the automatic detection of driver drowsiness based on visual
information. We locate track and analyze the driver’s face and eyes check whether
the driver is drowsy or not.
Objective / Need
Our proposed method is able to distinguish the simulated drowsy and normal state of driving on the
low resolution images of faces and eyes observed from an oblique viewing angle.
This will help in preventing the accidents which takes place in the road.
•Develop a wearable device capable of detecting eye blinks.
•Implement algorithms to analyze blinking patterns and identify
drowsiness.
•Design an alert system to warn the driver in real-time.
•Evaluate the effectiveness of Eye Blink Glasses in preventing road
accidents caused by drowsiness.
3. Methodology:
3.1 Hardware Design: Eye Blink Glasses are equipped with miniature cameras or infrared sensors
positioned near the driver's eyes to capture blinking patterns. These sensors are connected to a
microcontroller unit (MCU) or a small computing device embedded within the glasses.
3.2 Software Development:
•Blink Detection Algorithm: Develop algorithms to detect eye blinks based on sensor data.
Techniques such as image processing, machine learning, or signal processing can be employed.
•Drowsiness Detection Algorithm: Analyze blinking frequency, duration, and patterns to identify
signs of drowsiness. Machine learning models trained on labeled data can be used for accurate
detection.
•Alert System: Implement a real-time alert mechanism, such as sound, vibration, or visual cues, to
notify the driver when drowsiness is detected.
4. Implementation:
•Prototype Development: Build a functional prototype of the Eye Blink Glasses
integrating the hardware components and software algorithms.
•Testing and Calibration: Conduct extensive testing to ensure accurate detection of
eye blinks and drowsiness. Calibrate algorithms to minimize false positives and
negatives.
•User Interface: Develop a user-friendly interface for configuring settings and
displaying alerts.
5. Evaluation:
•Performance Testing: Assess the accuracy and reliability of the Eye Blink Glasses under
various conditions, including different lighting environments and user behaviors.
•User Feedback: Gather feedback from test users to evaluate the usability and comfort of
the glasses during real-world driving scenarios.
•Effectiveness in Accident Prevention: Analyze data on near-miss incidents and accidents
to determine the impact of Eye Blink Glasses in preventing drowsiness-related accidents.
SCOPE
1. This system can be used vehicles like cars, trucks etc for
prevention of accidents and ensuring driver’s safety.

2. Lots of financial loss and death prevention can be

increased.

3. Traffic occurrence after accident will also be prevented.

4. Monitoring of Drivers on Trucks and containers, large

Trolleys will be done in best way.

5. Roadways and transport companies can use this system.

CONCLUSION
Implementing a drowsiness detection system using IR sensor
technology offers a practical solution for enhancing road safety
by alerting drivers when they are becoming drowsy. By
integrating the system into wearable eye glasses, it provides a
non-intrusive and user-friendly approach for preventing the
accidents caused by driver fatigue.
This project implementation outline provides a starting point
for developing a functional prototype of the drowsiness
detection system. Depending on your specific requirements and
resources, you can further customize the design and
functionality to suit your needs.
