Would you opt for a package tour or a self-planned trip? Give arguments to
support your point of view. (12 lines)
Hobbies come in all shapes and sizes, but there's no denying that traveling has always been a favorite for a lot of
people including myself, which explains the growing number of package tours in an attempt to lure these travel
lovers. While these tours might offer a reasonable number of advantages. I personally, having tried both types of
trips, would opt for and individual one. For me, travelling means stepping out of one's comfort zone, seeking
aduenture and discovering new worlds. So what if I get lost? Is that not the point of it all? Wandering the streets,
discovering new places: that's travelling. Moreover, I find package tours extremely restricting as it doesn't offer the
same freedom I would have on my own, such as being in control of the schedule and not being tied down to a large
group of strangers. Therefore, individual trips, while being more costly, offer an unforgettable experience of
adventure and self-discovery, while giving you the most for your money.

Write a letter to "Supreme Travel" complaining about it and asking for a refund.
(12lines)
I am writing to you to complain about the package holiday you organised last week. It was such
an aweful holiday that I spent every single moment wishing to go back home. You said that we would have
a cosy coach to go on tours, but what we had was, to my amazement, a mini-bus. It was so tiny that some
of us had to stand up the whole way. Besides, the seats were covered with dust and the bus smellt badly.
In the hotel, we were six in a room since there weren't enough places. Even worse, most of us had a sever
stomachache on the third day. They must have served us raw meat or something roten. On top of that,
in the advertisement I twas mentioned that we can attend local celebrations to taste exotic food and
mingle with the islanders. However, the only party we were taken to was only for tourists and we were
served some refreshments only. So taking into consideration my disappointment and my frustration, I am
expecting to get lla total refund. And thank you for being understanding.

3) Read the bubbles below to find out what these cyber students think of online
learning and decide whether each of them is about its benefits or drawbacks.
With online learning you can retain your job while attending school .
Online classes offer a solution to couples who are keen on spending more time
with the family because many classes can be taken at any time, after the
children are asleep or while they are working on their own assignments.
53
English
To make online education or virtual learning as easy as possible, a student must be comfortable
using a computer and the internet. Someone who has to master these skills will likely experience a
learning curve and have to work doubly hard at first to keep up with the class and assignments.
Everyone seems to think online learning is easier. Well, it is completely the opposite,
and it is not because you need to be self- motivated to be an online learner, it is
because there is more work.
54
English
Money is saved that would otherwise be spent on gas, parking, lodging, and
meals. You can meet online with experts and students worldwide without leaving
your home or office to attend class physically.
Online learning offers more flexibility than traditional classroom-based learning as you can log on any
time of the day or night. Because most classes require an 8-12 hour commitment per week, this offers
quite a bit of flexibility in a pinch. Therefore, you can more likely handle personal and business
emergencies without having to drop a class.
Online learning, like all learning, requires a commitment of time. If you don't have enough
time, you can make more time. Some options are sleeping less, Waking up earlier,
managing time better and seeing your friends less.
55
English
In the online classroom, nearly all communication is written, so it is critical that students feel
comfortable expressing themselves in writing. Many students who have limited writing abilities
should address them before the online experience. Otherwise, they may fail as e-learners.
Online courses are not easier than the traditional educational process. In fact, many
students will say they require much more time and commitment.
Whether you are an average, fast, or slow learner, you can work at your own pace
when you take an online class. If English is your second language, you have the
opportunity to review the material more than once to be certain you understood
everything. If you learn very quickly and are normally bored waiting for other
students to catch up, you are now free to move as quickly as you like.

Dear editor,
At the start of this new academic year, I switched my son Paul from his previous conventional
school to a virtual one, hoping to save time and improve his results. However, what happened was
exactly the opposite to begin with, learning via internet is extremely time consuming as the student has
to make a supplementary effort after attending virtual classes. Besides, spending long hours in front of
the computer increased my son's laziness and discouraged him from practicing any other activity, as a
result, he become jatter and fatter and he is until now suffering from many health nuisances. Another
consequence which is not to be ignored, is that e-learning has remorts daly hompered my son's marks,
61
English
as he is not mature enough to resist to all the distractions of the net. How can I blame him?
Chatting with his friends or playing video games is certainly more tempting than attending a virtual
school. Finally, being isolated from the other pupils and not having physical contact with them has really
affected him morally, and academically. To sum up, it would be misleadint to say that virtual schools has
no advantages, we have the firm conviction that .
traditional ones remain much more effective.
Yours,
Patricia Jones

Dear editor,
At the start of this new academic year, I switched my son Paul from his previous conventional
school to a virtual one, hoping to save time and improve his results. However, what happened was
exactly the opposite, I strongly regret having made this choice. Actually, by enrolling him in such a school,
I was hoping to him meet his full potential, but as it turned out. I was misled to believe that a virtual
school is the bay to that issu. Previously, my son had to ride the bus for two hours per day to get to his
old school, which was both time and energy-consuming.
63
English
I thought that this school will give him access to the same learning opportunities without losing
time. Once he started attending the virtual school, it was hard for me to see my son sitting in front of
the screen for hours without establishing any social communication. Adding insult to injury, the amount
of work he was asked to achieve was overwhelining, he had to work of work doubly hand and do all the
understanding by himself, thus, his recent results have been all but satisfactory. Per haps the straw that
broke the camel's back was my son's extreme lack of motivation, he would desperately come asking me
to let him go back to his old school and friends claiming he can't go on like this. Finally, I was hoping to
share my failed experience with all the women concerned about their children's education preventing
them from making the same mistake. I mad

A Student's Essay
Distance learning is growing more and more succeful. In fact, the number of virtual schools in
the industrialized world keeps increasing. However, short comings and limitations to this hind of
education do exist. So, as an education expect said, some e-learners spet for home education because
they don't know what they are missing by enrolling in a virtual school.
For starters, e-learners spend too much time in front of the screen which could damage their
eyesight and bring about numerous health problems not to mention that they could lose focus on their
studies by logging on leisure websites and playing video games. So, they are missing the planned out
timetable of a conventional school and they would use the opportunity to organize Chearselves and
achieve brilliant results. By opting for home education, e-learners don't Seem to realize how much the
lack social skills. It's evident that some of them don't have any friends and can't bond easily. Besides, it's
hard for them to communicate, express them selves and voices their concerns since there's no eye-
contact involved with a virtual school. Moreover, bins home schooling can't be as motivating and as
65
English
competitive as it is for conventional schooling. Consequently, there very students could lose the
desire to learn and of bored to death with everything on the net. It wouldn't be the case if they could
play with their peers and come up with various games at the bime. In addition, by being home educated,
a student doesn't get prepared for life in the professional field which is really sad.
In a nutshell, technology has improved the quality of learning but, by no means, it can replace a
traditional school. So, a mode school with advanced tools is significantly prove useful than e-learning.
