a) Newton’s first law of motion

b)Newton’s second law of motion

c) Newton’s third law of motion

d)Law of conservation of momentum

14 The Shortest distance between any two points is its :-

a) Distance

b) Displacement

c) Speed

d) Work

15 Speed with Direction is called as :-

a) Time rate

b) Velocity

c) momentum

d) Path length

16 Motion along a straight line is also called as :-

a) Rectilinear motion

b) curvilinear motion

c) Circular motion
d) none of these

Question No. 17 to 20 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer
these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:

17

18

19 Assertion : When a firefly hits a bus, each of them exerts the same force.
Reason : Firefly has more mass as compared to the windshield.

a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.

c) A is true but R is false.

d) A is false but R is true.

20 Assertion: Uniform circular motion is also called as Uniformly accelerated motion.

Reason: The velocity of an object in uniform circular motion changes continuously.

a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.

c) A is true but R is false.

d) A is false but R is true.

Question No. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions

25 What does the odometer of an automobile measure?

Section-C
Question No. 27 to 33 are short answer questions

29

30
31 Explain, why is it difficult for a fireman to hold a hose, which ejects large amounts of water at a
high velocity ?

OR

A bullet of mass 20 g is horizontally fired with a velocity 150 m/s from a pistol of mass 2 kg. What is
the recoil velocity of the pistol?

32 Which of the following is true for displacement?

(a) It cannot be zero. (b) Its magnitude is greater than the distance travelled by the object.

33 If action is always equal to the reaction, explain how a horse can pull a cart.

Section-D.
34

35
36 A girl of mass 40 kg jumps with a horizontal velocity of 5 m/s onto a stationary cart with
frictionless wheels. The mass of the cart is 3 kg. What is her velocity as the cart starts moving?
Assume that there is no external unbalanced force working in the horizontal direction.

OR

An object experiences a net zero external unbalanced force. Is it possible for the object to be
travelling with a non-zero velocity? If yes, state the conditions that must be placed on the magnitude
and direction of the velocity. If no, provide a reason.

SECTION - E

Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts.

Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.

39 Distance and displacement are two quantities that seem to mean the same but
are different with different meanings and definitions. Distance is the measure of “how
much distance an object has covered during its motion” while displacement refers to the
measure of “how far the abject actually from initial place.” using this data answer
following questions.
(i) Kapil travels 20 km to North but then come back to South for 40 km to pick up a
friend. What is kapil’s total distance?
(a) 60km
(b) 80km
(c) 20km
(d) none of the above
(ii) Rahul travels 20 km to East but then come back to West for 10 km. Find
displacement.
(a) 30km
(b) 20km
(c) 10km
