YARN GAUGE
Size 4 worsted weight yarn Approximately 5 sts per inch, 6 rows per inch (in
Queensland Coastal Cotton: stockinette)
Celeste 100g (MC), Watermelon 20g (CC)
(NOTE: You will have enough yarn to knit two pairs SIZES
of shorty socks in opposite colors if you use two Pattern includes: Small (Medium, Large)

Abbreviations
St- stitch (sts - stitches) MC - main color
SL - Slip stitch *Slip stitches purlwise with yarn in Instep - Front/top of the sock
back
Sole - Back/bottom of the sock
SSK - Slip Slip Knit. Slip 2 stitches knitwise, one
at a time, then knit the 2 slipped stitches together RS - right side of work
through the back loop.
WS - wrong side of work
PM - place marker
SM - slip marker
SLIP STITCH HEEL FLAP With the spare needle pick up 10 (12, 14) stitches
Switching to CC, you will work the heel flat across along the side of the Heel Flap. Knit across the
half of the total stitches 20 (24, 28) using needles 1 picked up stitches. Continue to Knit across needle
and 3. PM, then Knit across needle 1 with needle 3 3 to the marker, remove the marker.
so 20 (24, 28) stitches are now on needle 3. Knit 1
stitch on needle 2 and leave yarn there. Do not cut Slip the stitches left of the marker on to needle #1.
MC. Leave instep stitches on needle 2 and secure in
place with needle stoppers while working heel. You should now be back to your initial setup of 3
needles.
Set up row (WS): Join CC and P across needle 3.
Row 1 (RS): *SL 1 purlwise with yarn in back, K1* Round 1: K to 3 sts before the instep begins,
repeat across row. K2tog, K1. Knit across instep. K1, SSK, Knit to
Row 2 (WS): SL 1 purlwise with yarn in front, marker.
P across row.
* Repeat rows 1 and 2 for a total of 10 (12,14) Round 2: K all sts
times. You will have 20 (24, 28) rows on your heel
flap. Knit heel turn as shown below, SM as needed. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have decreased
your stitches back to your starting count 40 (48,
HEEL TURN 56).
Row 1 (RS): SL 1 purlwise, K 10 (12,14), SSK, K1,
turn. FOOT
Row 2 (WS): SL 1 purlwise, P3, P2tog, P1, Turn. K around using MC until sock reaches 1-1/2
Row 3 (RS): SL 1 purlwise, K to 1 St before gap, (1-3/4, 2) shorter than your desired length.
SSK, K1, turn.
Row 4 (WS): SL 1 purlwise, P to 1st St before gap,
P2tog, P1, Turn.
* Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches on the heel
have been worked. You will have 12 (14,16) sts
remaining.

K to 3 sts before instep K2tog, K1 --------------
K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts of instep K2tog, K1. K front take it off
K1, SSK, K to end of round. P front leave it on repeat
P back take it off
Round 2: K all sts K back leave it on

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until 20 (24, 48) sts remain. Last stitch on each needle:
Repeat round 1 until 12 stitches remain. K front take it off
P back take it off
Knit sts from needle 1 onto needle 3 so you have two
needles with 6 stitches on each needle. Weave in your ends and enjoy!
