2. SYNOPSIS: The ultimate goal of the 10-day ToT course is to train invited officers from
universities in Afghanistan and Iraq that are developing career centers for the first time.
The course also addresses issues/potential issues that normally happen in planning,
developing and managing a career center for university students. It is a training program
course that will assist student services officers/counselors in understanding, planning,
developing and dealing with issues involving students’ career needs and aspirations in
their respective universities.
The course is designed to prepare individuals, practicing counselors and student services
officers on how to understand career counseling theory and practice, and how to develop
a career center in a university setting based on their understanding of career guidance and
counseling. It provides a comprehensive foundation in career guidance and career center
management, and how to develop and implement a career guidance/counseling model
that is congruent to the students’ needs, personal and professional values, and work
culture in respective cultural contexts.
This course is hands-on and concentrates on the ‘knowing how’ rather than just ‘knowing
what’ issues. The percentage distribution is 40% for theory and 60% for practical aspects.
