General instructions:
2. This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and
Section E.
4. Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based
of 1 mark each, Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains
seven questions of three marks each, Section D contains two case study based questions
of four marks each and Section E contains three long answer questions of five marks each.
5. There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one
question in Section B, one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D
and all three questions in Section E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such
questions.
Section A
a) Only for q2
b) Only for positive charges
c) Zero
d) For all the charges
11.If the frequency of an A.C. is made 4 times of its initial value, the inductive
reactance will
(a) be 4 times
(b) be 2 times
(c) be half
(d) remain the same
12.A short pulse of white light incident from air to glass slab at normal
incidence. After
travelling through the slab the first colour to emerge is
(a) violet (b) blue c) green (d) red

Section B
17. The radii of curvature of the faces of a double convex lens are 10 cm and 15
cm. If focal length of the lens is 12 cm, find the refractive index of the material
of the lens.
18. When two materials are placed in an external magnetic field, the behaviour
of magnetic field lines is as shown in the figure. Identify the magnetic nature
of each of these two materials.
19. How is a p-type semiconductor formed? Name the major processes involved
there. Draw the energy band diagram of a p-type semiconductor
OR
A long straight wire carries a current of 35 A. What is the magnitude of the field
B at a point 20 cm from the wire? (2 x 5 = 10)
Section C
23. (I) With the help of circuit diagrams, distinguish between forward biasing
and reverse biasing of p-n junction diode.
26. a) Find the wavelength of the electron orbiting in the first excited state in
hydrogen atom
b) Which transition corresponds to emission of radiation of maximum
wavelength?
27. a) A parallel beam of light of 500 nm falls on a narrow slit and the resulting
diffraction a pattern is observed on a screen 1 m away. It is observed that the
first minimum is at a distance of 2.5 mm from the center of the screen.
Calculate the width of the slit.
b) In Young’s experiment, how does the interference fringes’ angular separation
alter as the slit distance is increased?
OR
a) Two narrow straight slits, 0.25 mm apart are illuminated by an unknown
monochromatic source of light, if the fifth bright fringe is 12 mm away from
the central fringe when the screen is at a distance of 0.8 m from the slits.
Then the wave length of the unknown source?
b) What is the ratio of slit widths when amplitudes of light waves from them
have ratio. √3 : √2
28. An ideal transformer has 500 Primary turns and 10 Secondary turns. The
primary coil carries current 2A and its voltage is 11,000V. Find current and
voltage in the secondary coil . ( 7 x 3 = 21 )

Section D. (2 x 4 = 8 )
( Case based questions)
Read the following text and answer the following questions .
29.
: Faraday Cage: A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure made of
conducting material. The fields within a conductor cancel out with any
external fields, so the electric field within the enclosure is zero. These
Faraday cages act as big hollow conductors you can put things in to shield
them from electrical fields. Any electrical shocks the cage receives, pass
harmlessly around the outside of the cage.
Section E
Derive the expression for force per unit length between two long straight
parallel current carrying conductors. Hence define one ampere.
33. Four charges are arranged at the corners of a square ABCD of side d, as
shown in fig
OR
(3 x 5 = 15)
