XII MODEL EXAMINATION – II (2023-24). Marks: 70

PHYSICS. TIME : 3 H

General instructions:

1. There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.

2. This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and
Section E.

3. All the sections are compulsory.

4. Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based
of 1 mark each, Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains
seven questions of three marks each, Section D contains two case study based questions
of four marks each and Section E contains three long answer questions of five marks each.

5. There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one
question in Section B, one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D
and all three questions in Section E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such
questions.

6. Use of calculators is not allowed.

of each of these two materials.

19. How is a p-type semiconductor formed? Name the major processes involved
there. Draw the energy band diagram of a p-type semiconductor

20. In a Geiger-Marsden experiment, calculate the distance of the closest


approach to the nucleus of Z = 80, when an alpha-particle of 8 MeV energy
impinges on it before it comes to momentarily rest and reverses its direction.
How will the distance of the closest approach be affected when the kinetic
energy of the -particle is doubled?
21. The scale of a galvanometer of resistance 100 ohm contains 25 divisions. It
gives a deflection of one division on passing a current of 4x10-4 ampere. Find the
resistance in ohms to be added to it so that it may become a voltmeter of range
2.5 volt .

A long straight wire carries a current of 35 A. What is the magnitude of the field
B at a point 20 cm from the wire? (2 x 5 = 10)

Section C

22. A battery of emf 10 V and internal resistance 3Ω is connected to a resistor. If


the current in the circuit is 0.5 A, find
(i) the resistance of the resistor;
(ii) the terminal voltage of the battery.

23. (I) With the help of circuit diagrams, distinguish between forward biasing
and reverse biasing of p-n junction diode.

(ii) Draw V-I characteristics of a p-n junction diode in


(a)forward bias. (b)reverse bias.
24. State how in a photo-cell, the work function of the metal influences the
kinetic energy of emitted electrons.
a. If the intensity of incident radiation is doubled, what changes occur

b. If the frequency of the incident radiation is doubled, what changes occur in

27. a) A parallel beam of light of 500 nm falls on a narrow slit and the resulting
diffraction a pattern is observed on a screen 1 m away. It is observed that the
first minimum is at a distance of 2.5 mm from the center of the screen.
Calculate the width of the slit.
b) In Young’s experiment, how does the interference fringes’ angular separation
alter as the slit distance is increased?

a) Two narrow straight slits, 0.25 mm apart are illuminated by an unknown
monochromatic source of light, if the fifth bright fringe is 12 mm away from
the central fringe when the screen is at a distance of 0.8 m from the slits.
Then the wave length of the unknown source?
b) What is the ratio of slit widths when amplitudes of light waves from them

28. An ideal transformer has 500 Primary turns and 10 Secondary turns. The
primary coil carries current 2A and its voltage is 11,000V. Find current and

Read the following text and answer the following questions .

: Faraday Cage: A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure made of
conducting material. The fields within a conductor cancel out with any
external fields, so the electric field within the enclosure is zero. These
Faraday cages act as big hollow conductors you can put things in to shield
them from electrical fields. Any electrical shocks the cage receives, pass
harmlessly around the outside of the cage.

30. Electromagnetic Waves : According to Maxwell , an electromagnetic wave


is a wave radiated by an accelerated or oscillatory charge in which varying
magnetic field is the source of electric field and varying electric field is the
source of magnetic field. Thus two fields becomes source of each other and the
wave
propagates in a direction perpendicular to both the fields. Electromagnetic
waves are transverse in nature, i.e. electric and magnetic fields are
perpendicular to each other and to the direction of wave propagation.
Electromagnetic waves are not deflected by electric and magnetic fields.

Section E

31. a) Draw a labelled ray diagram of an astronomical telescope to show the


image formation of a distant object. Write the main considerations required in
selecting the objective and eyepiece lenses in order to have large Magnifying
power and high resolution of the telescope.
b). A compound microscope has an objective of focal length 1.25 cm and
eyepiece of focal length 5 cm. A small object is kept at 2.5 cm from the
objective. If the final image formed is at infinity, find the distance between the
objective and the eyepiece.
OR
a) Draw a ray diagram to show refraction of a ray of monochromatic light
passing through a glass prism.
b) Deduce the expression for the refractive index of glass in terms of angle of
prism and angle of minimum deviation. .

c) A ray PQ is incident normally on the face AB of a equilateral prism of


refracting angle of 60°, made of a transparent material of refractive index
2/√3 –as shown in the figure. Trace the path of the ray as it passes
through the prism.

32.A) What do you understand by sharpness of resonance for series LCR


circuit,?
Draw a graph showing variation of amplitude of current with changing
frequency of applied voltage in Series LCR. Circuit for two different values of
resistances R1 and R2. (R1>R2).
B) A 25.0 pF capacitor, a 0.10 H inductor and a 25.0 ohm resistor are connected
in series with an ac source whose emf is E = 310 sin 314t.

33. Four charges are arranged at the corners of a square ABCD of side d, as
shown in fig

a. Find the work required to put together this arrangement.


b. A charge q0 is brought to the center E of the square, the four charges
being held fixed at its corners. How much extra work is needed to do this?

a) Explain the term ‘drift velocity’ of electrons in a conductor. Hence obtain


the expression for the current through a conductor in terms of ‘drift
velocity’.
