WHAT IS Import export code?

IMPORT EXPORT CODE (IEC) is a 10 digit code issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade)
which is valid for lifetime. It is essential to obtain the IEC in order to undertake business pertaining to
import or export of goods and services. IEC is also essential in order to avail various schemes, export
programs and subsidies granted by the Govt. of India with regards to Import/Export Activities.

This is a prerequisite criterion that concern needs to follow before making the import or export.

Everyone wants to expand their company outside the boundaries of the domestic market in this era of
cut-throat competition. But doing business worldwide isn't just a cup of tea for everyone. In India, for
making export or import to another country the concern must have the license (registration certificate)
of Import-Export code for making such transactions.

✓ Importer needs to have IEC in order to get clearance of his shipments from Customs.

✓ Importer needs to present the IEC to the bank while making overseas payments.

✓ Exporter needs Import Export Code in order to ship or sell goods to overseas buyer.

✓ Exporter also needs IEC in order to obtain payments for sale of goods to an overseas buyer.

✓ Aadhar card of entities Directors/Partners/Proprietor
✓ Address Proof of Entity (any one of the following):

o Sale deed
o Ownership Proof
