CHILD LABOUR
INTRODUCTION
One of India’s most pervasive societal problems is
child labor. Several businesses, including
agriculture,manufacturing, construction, mining,
and domestic service, employ children. India is the
country with the most child laborers in the world,
according to the International Labour Organization
(ILO), with an estimated 10 million kids between
the ages of 5 and 17 working in some capacity.
Child labor is a widespread problem that is
complicated by a number of social, economic, and
cultural variables. Some of the main causes of the
perpetuation of this issue include poverty,
illiteracy, and insufficient enforcement of child
labour laws. In addition to robbing kids of their
childhood, child labor jeopardizes their health,
education, and general well-being. In order to
address the issue of child labour, the Indian
government has taken a number of actions,
including the adoption of laws and regulations to
uphold children’s rights. To end this practise and
guarantee that all children in India have access to
education, healthcare, and other fundamental
rights, however, much more work needs to be
done.
WHAT IS CHILD LABOUR?
WHAT IS CHILD LABOUR?Not all
work done by children should be classified as
child labour that is to be targeted for
elimination. The participation of children or
adolescents above the minimum age for
admission to employment in work that does
not affect their health and personal
development or interfere with their schooling,
is generally regarded as being something
positive. This includes activities such as
assisting in a family business or earning
pocket money outside school hours and
during school holidays. These kinds of
activities contribute to children’s development
and to the welfare of their families; they
provide them with skills and experience, and
help to prepare them to be productive
members of society during their adult life.
