Safety Notices

Symbols

This manual uses the following symbols to highlight specific areas important to
the safe and proper use of the Generator

A WARNING notice denotes a hazard. It calls attention to an operating procedure,

process or similar, which if not correctly performed or adhered to, could cause personal
injury or in the worst case death. Do not proceed beyond a WARNING notice until the
! indicated conditions are fully understood or met.

A CAUTION notice denotes a hazard. It calls attention to an operating procedure,

process or similar, which if not correctly performed or adhered to, could cause damage
to the Generator or the Application. Do not proceed beyond a CAUTION notice until the
indicated conditions are fully understood or met.
!

Caution, risk of electric shock. Ensure power to the Generator has been removed before
proceeding.
!

Safety Notice to Users

These instructions must be read thoroughly and understood
before installation and operation of your Peak Genius 1051
Generator. Use of the Generator in a manner not specified by
Peak Scientific MAY impair the SAFETY provided by the
equipment.

When handling, operating or carrying out any maintenance,

personnel must employ safe engineering practices and
observe all relevant local health and safety requirements and
regulations. The attention of UK users is drawn to the Health
and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Institute of Electrical
Engineers regulations.

Safely Isolated Condition

Definition: The unit is in a Safely Isolated Condition when it is disconnected

from its application, fully de-pressurised and isolated from the Electrical
Supply. Directions for isolating the Generator are shown below.

Failure to place the Generator in a safely isolated condition

when instructed to do so may lead to personal injury or injury
to others and even death.

Isolating the Generator:

a)! Switch off the unit.

b)! Unplug the unit from the mains supply and remove the power cord from
the rear of the unit.

c)! Ensure the output pressure gauge read zero. (If gauge does not fall to
zero, loosen the outlet fitting slightly to allow trapped gas to escape.)

d)! Ensure that tank pressure gauge located on electrical panel reads zero.
(If gauge does not fall to zero, close pressure regulator and loosen the
outlet fitting to allow trapped air to escape.)

e)! Disconnect from the application.

Page 8

Safe State After Repair

To guarantee the generator is in a safe state after a repair, please ensure the
following conditions are met;

! All earth leads have been reconnected.

Earth leads should be connected to the earth tabs located on the door panels,
as shown below.

! The electricity cable has been correctly refitted.

The mains cable should be plugged into the IEC power inlet located on the rear
panel of the generator. This unit is classified as SAFETY CLASS 1. THIS UNIT
MUST BE EARTHED.

! The system builds pressure correctly.

Pressure will start to build in the internal storage tanks which can be monitored
by watching the output pressure gauge on the front panel. This will climb to the
factory set pressure as noted in the specifications.

! The compressors cycle and do not run continuously.

Once pressure is reached, the compressors will continue to run until the internal
tank upper pressure limit is reached. The compressors will then rest until the
internal tank lower pressure limits is reached. Once this limit is reached the
compressors will switch back on again. This compressor cycling is normal
operation and will continue throughout the operation of the Generator, the
compressors should not run continuously.

Principle of Operation

On Demand Gas

The Generator produces gas on demand. If the application is operating and

requires a gas flow, the Generator will supply this to suit the requirements of
the application. If the applications requirement for gas stops, the Generator will
also stop, once it has reached its upper set limit in the internal storage tanks. If
the demand from the application starts again, the Generator will detect the
demand for gas and will automatically start again to suit the demand.

If the customer requires an AIR supply in conjunction with the N2 supply, this is
activated by rotating the ON/OFF switch on the front fascia. The combination
can be any value so long as the sum is 25l/min in total, e.g. 13 N2/12 Air or 10
N2/15 Air etc.

Genius 1051 Pressure Settings

Pressure Limit Air (PSI) N2 (PSI)
Upper Refer to QD09 Refer to QD09
Lower Refer to QD09 Refer to QD09

Table 3: Genius 1051 Pressure Settings

Procedure to set Pressure Switch

1.! Set Air upper limit: on rising tank pressure, press and hold EDIT for 2
seconds or until LED starts flashing at desired psi. Compressors will stop
(assuming all timers have elapsed otherwise compressors will continue
to run until they have completed time intervals). Repeat this for the N2
upper limit at desired psi.

2.! Set Air lower pressure limit: as tank pressure falls, press and hold EDIT
for 2 seconds or until LED is lit continuously at desired psi. Compressors
will start to pressurise the tanks. Repeat this for the N2 lower limit at
desired psi.

NOTE: If desired upper pressure limit is higher than that of the current pressure
setting and the compressor stops before desired pressure setting is reached, it
is necessary to ‘force’ the compressor to run. This is done by over-riding the
compressor contactor as described in the .'/0&)11'&!.'*%23%'& section below.

Care should be taken so as to not over pressurise tanks

Page 16

Compressor Inlet Filter Replacement

Ensure that Generator is in Safely Isolated Condition

1.! Remove the filter lid by turning it

clockwise and pulling upwards

2.! The filter element is fitted into the

filter lid. Pull it out and clean the
inside of the lid before fitting a
02-4640 replacement filter
element into the lid.

3.! Clean the filter bowl (situated

inside of the unit) and then re-fit
the lid (including attached filter
element) to the filter housing,
turning it anti-clockwise to lock it
in position.

Duplex Filter Element Replacement

Ensure that Generator is in Safely Isolated Condition

1.! Remove 6mm drain tubing

from push-fit stud situated
on under-side of both of the
bowls.

2.! Remove the filter bowls by

turning the bowl anti-
clockwise

3.! Remove the filter elements

by pulling downwards.

4.! Fit 00-0031 (green) and 00-

0032 (blue) replacement
elements.

5.! Re-fit the filter bowls.

RAC Filter Element Replacement

Ensure that Generator is in Safely Isolated Condition.

Open the filter bowl valve to ensure it

is depressurised.

Remove the filter bowl by turning it as

shown to reveal the filter element

For easier access, the filter

assembly can be removed from
the cabinet by removing the 2
Nyloc nuts and disconnecting
the tubing.

Remove and replace the filter element

and re-assemble.

Compressor Replacement

Ensure that Generator is in Safely Isolated Condition

NOTE: Removal of the RH compressor BEFORE the LH compressor makes it

easier to gain access to the quick release coupling of the LH compressor.

Removing the Compressor

1.! Disconnect the quick release coupling on the compressor hose. Un-clip
safety latch on electrical plug and disconnect electrical power supply
plug.

2.! Disconnect 10mm tubing from compressor intake 10mm push-fit Banjo
fitting.

3.! Remove 10mm compressor mount nut and spring washer from
underside of compressor compartment

4.! The compressor can now be lifted out.

Re-fitting the Compressor

1.! Lift the compressor into position and locate the compressor mount
studs through their respective holes in the compressor compartment.

2.! Replace the 10mm compressor mount spring washers and nuts –
tighten, ensuring mounts are not twisted.

3.! Reconnect the 10mm tubing from compressor intake to the Banjo
fitting.

4.! Reconnect the compressor hose quick release coupling

5.! Reconnect the electrical plug ensuring that the safety latch is clipped
securely back into position
