Tests & Clause reference Requirement as per IS 4151: 2015 + Amd.1: 2018 + Amd.2: 2020
No. Observations
a) Solvent conditioning- Take a cotton cloth approximately 150mm square
and a quantity approximately 25 ml of a solvent consisting of tests liquid
with (70 % Octane and 30% Toluene). Using the cloth, apply the solvent to
all those regions of the outside surface of the helmet shell within 50 mm
of the chin strap fixing and keep these regions wet within the solvent for
7.5± 2.5 s. Repeat the procedure on the remainder of the external surface
including any chin guard. No further conditioning or testing be done during
the following 30 min.
b) Ambient temperature & hygrometry conditioning- The helmet shall be
Conditioning exposed to a temperature of 25±5°C and a relative humidity of 65±5% for All conditioning has been
1.
(IS 4151: 2015) at least 4h. done as per clause
c) Heat conditioning- The helmet shall be exposed to a temperature of
50±2°C for not less than 4 h and not more than 6 h.
d) Low- temperature conditioning- The helmet shall be exposed to a
temperature of -20±2°C for not less than 4 h and not more 6 h.
e)Ultraviolet radiation and moisture conditioning- The outer surface of the
protective helmet shall be exposed successively to ultraviolet irradiation
by a 125 W xenon filled quartz lamp for 48 h at a range of 25cm, followed
by spraying for 4 to 6 h with water at ambient temperature at the rate of 1
litre/min.
The absorption efficiency shall be considered sufficient where the
resultant acceleration measured at the centre of gravity of the head form
meets the following requirements:
Impact Absorption Tests
a) Peak acceleration does not exceed 400 g; Refer Annex 1 of Impact
(Cl. 7.2 of IS 4151: 2015)
b) Acceleration in excess of 200g does not exceed a cumulative duration of absorption test report
2. Sub clause 7.2.1
2.0 millisecond; and
c) Acceleration in excess of 150g does not exceed a cumulative duration of
4.0 millisecond.(See Annex 1)
No detachment of helmet
Sub Clause 7.2.2 The helmet shall not become detached from the head form.
from head form observed.
