LITERARY, MUSICAL and CULTURAL CONTEST


December 13, 2024

Literary Contest – 7:00 AM


Musical and Cultural – 2:00 PM
LITERARY CONTEST
A. STORY – TELLING and NURSERY RHYME
1. There shall be one contestant from each organization.
2. Contestant must be from Pre-Elementary Level.
3. Contestant will recite a story of his/her own choice within two minutes
including entrance and exit.
4. Criteria for judging:
- Voice clarity and projection - 25%
- Diction - 15%
- Expression and showmanship - 25%
- Mastery - 25%
- Costume - 10%
- Total: 100%
5. The decision of the members of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.

B. TULA
1. There shall only be one contestant from each organization.
2. Contestant must be a Grade 1 pupil.
3. Contestants must have the same piece of Tula.
4. Delivery of the piece must not exceed five (5) minutes but not less than
three (3) minutes.
5. Criteria for judging:
- Vocal Quality - 25%
- Interpretation - 30%
- Poise and stage presence - 20%
- Impact and effectiveness - 25%
- Total: 100%
6. The decision of the members of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.

C. TALUMPATI/ORATION
1. There shall only be one contestant from each organization.
2. Contestant must be a Grade 6 pupil for Talumpati and Grade 11/12 for
oration.
3. Contestants must have the same piece, however, for oration each
participant from Senior High School, should or must prepare their own
piece.
4. Delivery of the piece for talumpati must not exceed five (5) minutes but
not less than three (3) minutes, and it must not exceed seven (7) minutes
but not less than five (5) minutes for oration, respectively.

5. Criteria for judging:


- Mastery - 25%
- Vocal Quality (Projection &Pronunciation) - 30%
- Gesture - 25%
- Impact and effectiveness - 20%
- Total: 100%
6. The decision of the members of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.

D. DECLAMATION
1. There shall only be one contestant from each organization.
2. Contestant must be a Junior High School Student.
3. The contestant must have their original piece that is related to the
theme.
4. Delivery of the piece must not exceed five (5) minutes but not less
than three (3) minutes.
5. Criteria for Judging:
- Message (relevance to the theme) - 40%
- Originality - 30%
- Creativity - 20&
- Delivery of performance - 10%
- TOTAL: - 100%
6. The decision of the members of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.

E. IMPROMPTU SPEAKING
1. Contestants will draw a topic from an envelope and will be expected
to begin speaking to that topic within 5 minutes.
2. The speech should be in English.
3. Bringing notes during deliberation is prohibited.
3. The length of the presentation should be between 3 and 5 minutes.
4. Hand signals will be provided at the 5-, 3-, 2-, and 1-minute marks as well
as at the 30-second and final 10-second marks.
6. Contestants should allow for audience reaction in the timing of the
speech. The judges will take excess time into account in their scoring.
7. The topic must be based on the theme of the 28th founding anniversary of
GSI.
8. Criteria for Judging:
- CONTENT - 40%
(Easy to understand, focused,
structured, engaging, supported
with relevant facts)
- DELIVERY - 40%
(Stage presence,body language,
speaker moves appropriately,
exhibits enthusiasm, uses
different pitches, volumes,
words heard & clearly understood)
- LANGUAGE - 20%
(Word choice appropriate for the
audience, use of words in terms
of grammar and pronunciation)

MUSICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEST

• VOCAL SOLO/ VOCAL DUET (High school and College)


1. There shall only be one contestant from each organization.
2. Performance time is 3 to 4 minutes including the entrance and exit.
3. The contestant/s is free to choose of any OPM song (English or Filipino)
provided the song chosen is appropriate to his/her level.
4. Contestant/s must provide their accompaniment in a FLASH DRIVE and
CELLPHONE.
5. Criteria for judging:

VOICE QUALITY - 50%


a. Tonality
b. Appropriateness to genre
c. Technique

STYLE AND PERFORMANCE - 30%


a. Rendition qualities
b. Timing and precision
c. Choreography, delivery and interpretation
d. Appropriateness of staging of song selected

OVER ALL APPEAL - 25%


a. Stage Appeal
b. Audience Impact
c. Costume

6. The decision of the members of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.

• CONTEMPORARY DANCE (High School and College Level)


1. Each group shall consist of seven to ten members. Male/female or a combination
of both is allowed, consisting of Grades 7 to 12 students.
2. Vulgarity, obscenity, and explicit content are not allowed.
3. Only one song is allowed. No edits and no cuts.
4. Liftings are allowed if there is body contact. No throwing and tossing allowed.
5. Materials or props that will cause the stage to become slippery or dangerous are
strictly prohibited. The committee has the right to refuse materials or props that
may be deemed hazardous.
6. Costumes are optional but should be appropriate to the choreography
performed.

Technical Proficiency/Skill 20%
(Alignment, strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination)
Clarity and Consistency in Style 20%
Phrasing/Dynamics/Musicality 25%
Clarity of Intent/Interpretation of Choreography 35%

• MODERN DANCE (Elementary, High School and College Level)


1. Each organization is allowed to use different modern dance genre.
2. Staging must be implemented, and the team will be allowed to modify the dance
steps, costumes, and music.
3. Ten to fifteen members per organization is needed for high school and college
category. Six to fifteen members per organization is needed for elementary category
which consist of Grades 1-6 pupils. Male/female or a combination of both is
allowed. Props men are excluded.
4. Hand-carried props are allowed except sharp/breakable/flammable objects and
other kinds of liquids.
5. The performance of each group should not exceed to six (6) minutes and not
less than four (4) minutes. The setting up of props is excluded. Exceeding time of
every ten (10) seconds will be automatically deducted one (1) point from the total
score by the committee.
6. Materials/props that will cause the stage to become slippery or dangerous are
strictly prohibited. The committee has the right to refuse materials/props that may
be deemed hazardous.
7. Remix songs are allowed.

Criteria:
Creativity, choreography, and originality 35%
Skills and mastery of dance 25%
Showmanship and coordination 20%
Costume and Props 10%
Musicality 10%
