Globalization is a process that affects people's lives and nations' economies.

It is something that is
almost on everybody's lips these days. But did you know that globalization started in 1492, according to
many historians?

A working paper created by Kevin H. O’Rourke and Jeffrey G. Williamson for the National Bureau of
Economic Research was published in 2002. They said that many historians around the world believe that
significant events in globalization started when Christopher Columbus sailed in 1492 and found the
Americas. It was followed by the voyage of Vasco de Gama in 1498 that disrupted the spice trade
monopoly of Venetian and Arab traders when he sailed around Africa.

Other historians believe that globalization started long before the first voyage of Christopher Columbus.
For them, it started when people from Africa moved to other locations around the world. Whether they
traveled long or short distances, these people, either migrants or merchants shared their products,
customs and ideas to the people they interacted with in their destinations. The newcomers and the
residents of the lands they found borrowed, adapted and melded their cultures.

According to the paper, the most credible opinion regarding the beginning of globalization is what
happened during the 19th century, a time when international trade made an economic impact on the
economy worldwide.

Globalization is a good thing. When we are getting products from other countries, we create jobs in
those countries, which allows us to get products for a lower price and similar quality. Also, the lower
jobs that many Americans would say are "below" them are outsourced to other countries, leaving the
better jobs to the Americans.

It is a good thing because it creates jobs even the ones that are under paid are at least given a job to
make money. With globalization it has benefited us as a consumer creating more competition. With new
technologies we can communicate across the world in a instance. We have to look at the big picture and
think global not local.

I think that globalization is good because of:

1. Transport, we can get to any place in the world in a matter of hours. It can be used to see family
members, or to post goods around the world.

2. Communication, we can talk to anyone we want, and we can tell them anything in seconds, not like
the olden days when it went by pigeon or by post and took months

3. Food can now be made everywhere in the world and be delivered faster, now we could have indian
curry sold next to mangoes from Tanzania.

4. Thanx to wifi and the internet and google, we can now get information from ANYWHERE and about
ANY TOPIC. Thanx to technology, we have access to take pictures using cameras made in china, when we
don't even live there!!

Globalization is better for us
