Chapter 1 : Background and History

Lo Shu grid is a square-shaped design which consists of 9 numbers from 1
to 9 with 3 rows and 3 columns. Total of each row and each column sums to
15. It is considered as sacred square. Chinese, numerology has always been
associated with the Magical Lo Shu Grid, which was discovered around 4000
years ago. The intrinsic patterns of the base chart, together with the way the
numbers move about the grid, are believed to offer clues on the
characteristics and outcomes of events within the environment. The Lo Shu
grid is the central principle behind “Flying Star Feng Shui” and also used in
the interpretation of individual birth charts. This is also called as Life Pattern
Grid (LPG).

Where did Lo Shu Square come from?

The story of this square’s origin dates back to almost 4000 years old China.
Legend says that Chinese people found a tortoise shell during the flood of
the river Luo

This tortoise-shell had a 3×3 square on its back and the sum of every
horizontal, vertical, and diagonal row was added up to 15. Now 15 is the
number of days between the new moon and the full moon. Number 5 was
also highly regarded in ancient China and this magic square had a number
5 in the center.

In those ancient times in China it was considered auspicious omen because

they believed that God lived inside tortoise and turtle shells.

The diagram below illustrates the relationship between the eight-sided Pa-
Kua and the nine grids Lo-Shu magic square. Please note that the Pa-Kua
shown here places the direction of South at the top, to correspond with the
number 9. This is because the Chinese compass places South at the top, and
to ensure consistency and accuracy, it is necessary when relationships
between symbols are being analyzed, and to comply with the practice
followed in the ancient manuals.

Lo Shu Grid

An ancient form of divination, Chinese numerology dates back about 4,000 years.
The birth of this artform is retold in the Legend of the Turtle

Between 2205 and 2198 B.C.E. He had a reputation of being wise and ruled in a just
manner.

At one time Emperor Yu was engaged the supervision of building a dam on the
Yellow River. Sitting by the bank of the river he was interrupted by a divine turtle
which appeared from the river. The name of the turtle was Hi.
The emperor was astonished when he took a closer look on the back of the Turtle.
There was a magic square, nine numbers in all. The numbers added up to 15 in
every direction.

SUKSHMURJA PAGE 5
Lo Shu Grid

Emperor Yu is widely acknowledged as the one who first discovered the

magic square, brought to him on the shell of the turtle, which aside from
being an omen of good luck in Chinese lore, is well known for its divine
wisdom. This magic square is known as the “Lo Shu” square and is
important in all forms of Chinese spirituality surrounding numbers such as
Feng Shui, the Ki Star theory, and The Chinese Zodiac.

Chinese numerology readings are based on mystical traditions, including

the I-Ching – which sometimes also used for numerology compatibility
readings. Over time Chinese numerology has evolved into three different
systems that are being used today. There is the Western version of Chinese
numerology, the traditional Chinese numerology and the Ki system.
Whatever the method, the basic principles are the same in the modality.
Chinese give equal importance to Lo-Shu square as they do for the Pa-Kua.
It is derived from Laxmi Yantra, similar to the one of the backs of tortoise
considered on be the 2nd incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The square consists of numbers one to nine set in a square. As you can see
from the square whether you add the numbers vertically, horizontally or
diagonally the sum of the numbers of 15.

The square is also called magic square and is believed to give important
information while analyzing the building/destiny of the person. Let’s
have a closer look at the square and try to see its significance.

Missing number 1

This has been an impossible proposition for the last thousand years, as the
year of the birth always had this Number.

But, from the 21st century onwards, many people will have it missing from
their Charts.

People with a missing number 1 will find it difficult to express themselves

and their individuality. They will, most likely, not have any major issues
with ego or self-pride and may spend most of their time helping and
nurturing others. Maybe, that is why the beginning of the 2000’s is also
termed as the Age of Humanity.

In creative pursuits and self-realizations goals, they will find a constructive

outlet to their emotions.

Missing number 2

A missing Number 2 indicates a lack of sensitivity and intuition in the

native’s personality. Such people also possess a marked impatient and
unpunctual streak. And they may be too much into justifications and
clarifications for their actions or for the lack of them. The biggest mistakes
they will commit in their lives shall be because of them ignoring that small,
quiet, yet mostly correct, voice inside them. To lead a better life, they should
strive to adopt a more balanced approach.

SUKSHMURJA PAGE 15
Lo Shu Grid

Missing number 3

People without Number 3 in their charts may suffer from a lack of self-
confidence and may also find it tough to express themselves on most
occasions. This shall carry on for the initial years of their lives and may
become better only once they learn to accept themselves as they are.

Once that happens, these people shall gain confidence, self-belief, and self-
esteem from all their endeavors. Till then, they tend to underestimate their
abilities, which leads to their self-effacing attitude. Also, such people lack
the ability to think logically, when faced with distractions and roadblocks.

Missing number 4

Such people lack organizational skills, and that is the most important quality
they need to cultivate, in their quest to lead an enhanced life. Working in set
routines, with strict norms is a major issue for them, and they may turn up
late usually. They also have a low self-motivation, and seriously need to alter
their perspective for life, if they wish to make giant strides towards success.
Life becomes easier and better for them, once they develop dexterity, passion
for what they want, and more tolerance and patience.

Missing number 5

Setting defined, targeted goal is a major issue for these people. They lack
drive and versatility. Usually not great at multi-tasking, they require
external sources of motivation and reinforcement to keep them on the right
track. Also, such people must be guided to set realistic goals and targets,
which they will attain and complete, before embarking onto others.

SUKSHMURJA PAGE 16
Lo Shu Grid

Missing number 6

People without a 6 in their charts tend to hide their innermost feelings from
others. They also lack the quality of being self-less, even in their closest
relationships. Due to which they find it difficult to relate to others and may
even have troubles with one of their parents. They need to cultivate the
quality of giving more of their heart and soul, of being open and free, at least
for the sake of the relationships that matter to them.

Missing number 7

Decidedly inconsiderate and insensitive, when it comes to others’ feelings,

such people live a self-immersed life. They are usually disorganized in
everyday life and tend to remain aloof from anything remotely spiritual or
metaphysical. They are not independent and self-sufficient on most
occasions, and hate being left on their own. The lesson they need to learn is
of free-flowing, honest communication. They become better once they learn
to convey their feelings well, and in turn become relaxed with other people.

Missing number 8

8 is a practical number. People without this number are generally bad at

handling their financial affairs. Plus, they lack motivation and drive, and
may even be prone to leaving/ abandoning their tasks mid-way. Quite
impulsive and careless, they need to think before they act. Their trusting
nature may jeopardize their finances and security.

Missing number 9

Everyone born in the twentieth century possesses this number, but from
twenty first century onwards there will be many people who will not have
it in their charts. Such people will tend to be insensitive and shall overlook
the needs of others. Detached and oblivious to others, these people need to
develop that much-needed streak of humanitarianism. They also need to be
more candid and giving in their dealings.

Chapter 11 : Numbers – Kua

Kua Number is a basic concept in Feng Shui. Kua number is calculated based
on the Date of Birth and Gender of a person. According to Feng shui, the
year of birth of a person has some influence on certain qualities, abilities, and
features of the individual.

The date of birth has an extraordinary influence on us as individuals and on

our lives. The ancient Chinese already knew this, and so they created a Kua
system that helps us achieve harmony, happiness, and success in life. Kua
number will help you get to know yourself and your life path better. It will
also help you find out which directions are lucky or unlucky for you, so if
you want to work with feng-shui energy and apply it to your life, knowing
your Kua number is crucial.

Once you've calculated your kua number, it's easy to determine the best
compass directions for various areas of your life, such as work, love, health,
wealth, etc. Four of the eight mansions (eight compass directions) will be
auspicious directions, and four will be inauspicious directions. With this
information, you can improve all areas of your life and avoid directions that
aren't auspicious to your kua number.

To calculate anyone's feng shui kua number, you will need the following
information:

• The year they were born that is the Birth Year

• Gender- Male/Female

SUKSHMURJA PAGE 28
Lo Shu Grid

How to calculate

• Take last two digits of your birth year. Add them and reduce it to base
number (single digit)
• For second step we need to check if client is male or female and we
also need to check if they are born before 2000 or from 2000 onwards.
These factors decide if we will do addition or subtraction
• For Female born before 2000 we will add 5 to the step 1 base number
to get the Kua number (it is also base number)
• For Female born from 2000 we will add 6 to the step 1 base number to
get the Kua number (it is also base number)
• For Male born before 2000 we will subtract the step 1 base number
from 10 to get the Kua number (it is also base number)
• For Male born from 2000 we will subtract the step 1 base number from
9 to get the Kua number (it is also base number)

Additional point for Males born on 2009, 2018, 2027… (in multiple of 9)
the Kua number will be 9 not 0.
