Before/Pre-Lesson Proper

Activating Prior Good morning/afternoon, dear learners! Welcome to
Knowledge another fun learning activity in our English class!

Based on our previous discussions, you have been


doing great so far. Let us test your memory to see if
you can still remember the different elements of a
story.

I would like you to read the following sentences and


identify the elements of the story. Are you all ready?
Great!

1. Maria and Juan are kind classmates who always


help each other.

2. They study in a bright and cheerful classroom.

3. One day, they planted trees together to make their
school greener and more beautiful.

(The teacher reads the sentences first. Then, the


teacher will read it to the learners. Lastly, the learners
read the sentences.)

cooperation, and environmental care, which are good
traits and behaviors for young Filipino learners.

Lesson Now that you have shown mastery of the previous


lessons, I would like you to re-arrange the following

in your notebook. This new word refers to a story’s
central idea or message that the author wants to
convey to the reader. It is the moral or lesson of the
story. Raise your hand if you have an idea of what the
new word is.

good grasp of today’s lesson. For example, love may
be the topic in the story, but learning to love
yourself and others may be the theme. For you to
get the story’s theme, you need to carefully read and
comprehend the story and identify its central message
or moral/lesson. You can ask yourself the following
question to quickly identify the story’s theme: What is
this story trying to tell me?

identify the different themes or messages in a
narrative or short story.

face, so he shared the ball
with Lily. Lily's face lit up
with joy; and they both
played happily together.
Sharing his ball made Ben
happy, too.
