Question 1
1.1. In the diagram below, P(-5; 12) and T lies on the positive x-axis. 𝑃𝑂̂𝑇 = 𝜃

Answer the following without the use of your calculator:

1.1.1. Write down the value of 𝑡𝑎𝑛𝜃. (1)
1.1.2. Calculate the value of 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜃. (3)
1.1.3. Calculate the value of 𝑠𝑖𝑛2𝜃. (3)

1.2. sin(𝐴 + 𝐵) − sin(𝐴 − 𝐵) = 2𝑐𝑜𝑠𝐴. 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝐵

1.2.1. Prove the above identity. (2)
1.2.2. Hence and without using a calculator,
prove that 𝑠𝑖𝑛77° − 𝑠𝑖𝑛43° = 𝑠𝑖𝑛17° (3)

𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑥
+ sin(180° + 𝑥 ) cos(90° − 𝑥) (5)
𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑥.𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑥

2.2. Without using a calculator, determine the value of:

𝑠𝑖𝑛2 35°−𝑐𝑜𝑠 235°
(4)
4𝑠𝑖𝑛10° .cos 10°

2.3. Given: 𝑐𝑜𝑠26° = 𝑚

Without using a calculator, determine 2𝑠𝑖𝑛2 77° in terms of 𝑚 (4)
