(b) by using nutrients from the bread to prepare their own food.
(c) by breaking down the nutrients of bread and then absorbing them
(d) by allowing other organisms to grow on the bread and then consuming them
10 The image shows a cross section of small intestine. 1

What will happen if the number of villi increases in the intestine?

(a) increase in the absorption of food
(b) fast elimination of waste from the body
(c) increase in flow of blood in the small intestine

conditions they can become female as they grow. This is because
A. male snails have dominant genetic makeup.
B. female snails have dominant genetic makeup.
C. expression of sex chromosomes can change in a snail’s lifetime.
D. sex is not genetically determined in snails.

15. Identify the incorrect statement 1

‘The energy available to the producers is maximum’ because:
A. It is the first trophic level which absorbs 1% of light energy directly from the
source.
B. It utilizes most of the chemical energy for its own respiration, growth,
reproduction, movement etc.
C. It utilizes 10% of light energy and transfers the rest to the next trophic level.

environment around them. The changes in the environment to which the organisms
respond and react are called stimuli. The living organisms show response to stimuli
such as light, heat, cold, sound, smell, taste, touch, pressure, pain, water, and force
of gravity, etc. The response of organisms to a stimulus is usually in the form of
some movement of their body part. The message from sense organ is conducted
through the nerve cell.
