Learning is not a luxury

IS GOOD EDUCATION IS A RIGHT OR A PRIVILEGE?

Position paper by Chrizabelle Joy B. Bacan & Marvie Gerilla of Humss 11: Skinner

According to Dictionary of education (edited by C.V. Good, 1973), you will find that education is

defined as “the aggregate of all the processes by which a person develops abilities, attitudes and other

forms of behavior of practical values in the society in which s/he lives; the social process by which

people are subjected to the influence of selected and controlled environment (especially that of the

school), so that they may obtain social competence and optimum individual development”. Learning

is not a luxury. As a human, Good education is our right Everyone’s legal right to education is

protected from discrimination. The right to education must be upheld and fulfilled by the states, when

a state deny an individuals right to education there are ways to hold them responsible

Education is a fundamental human right

For everyone, education is vital. In order to produce a generation of moral people who in turn

help to produce decent people, education is essential. Education not only helps people grow

intellectually but also physically and socially. For young people, education is crucial because it

helps them form life values, makes it possible for them to choose the right job path, and gets

them ready to pursue whatever personal objectives they may have. A decent education—or even

just an ordinary one—is. a fundamental human right that cannot be violated. Education is not a

privilege but a right.

In "Thinking in Education," John Dewey once said that the "method of instruction needs

improvement, which is to exact, promote, and test thinking." Students who are eager to learn will

almost certainly think differently from those who are not. One of the key elements of education

that can accelerate learning is thinking. Everyone is born with the capacity to think, which they

can develop further by learning new things. Therefore, education becomes a right when you use
what you are born with. Being "book smart" and learning a variety of subjects in school, such as

science, arithmetic, and history, are components of education. Additionally, education fosters the

release of hitherto unthinkable creative thoughts. Since education cannot be taken away, unlike

privileges, it is a right.

Since education is necessary for modern society to run smoothly, it is a fundamental human

right. While advanced knowledge is necessary for well-informed judgments, basic abilities such

as reading and writing are required for occupations and civic tasks. Without education,

specialized knowledge declines and advancement is slowed. Because educated decisions are

unattainable, democracy perishes. Education is a right because to deny it is to starve the mind

and the curiosity. Thus, democracy and human self-fulfillment depend on education. Regarding

the rightness or privilege of education, there are differing views on this complicated subject.

Learning is more than just reading books; it's also about picking up skills that will help you

adjust to society and everyday living. To make a living, cultivate a positive outlook, integrate

into society, and instill ideals for socialization, education is crucial. it instills confidence and

respect because educated people are valued for their knowledge and capacity for opinion

expression. Learning useful skills that are applicable to daily life, like cooking, is another benefit

of education. It supports critical situation analysis, reasoned decision-making, and the generation

of useful concepts. Future generations may benefit from this and enjoy a higher standard of

living. Since education is a human right and should be available to all people, regardless of

gender, nationality, or socioeconomic background, it can be seen as a right. However, financial

limitations frequently prevent people from having access to education, especially in less

developed nations. To sum up, since education is a basic human right that cannot be denied for
any reason, it is a right. People have the right to an education regardless of their circumstances or

means, including their origins, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing.

Education is an essential human entitlement that ought to be protected and made available to

everyone, irrespective of their circumstances or background. It is essential to democracy

functioning, society advancement, and individual growth. Restricting access to education not

only limits the potential of the individual but also impedes the progress of society. Therefore, as

education is crucial for producing knowledgeable, moral, and capable citizens, it is crucial that

states be held responsible for making sure that everyone gets the chance to study.
