Environmental Scanning of the School or Community

I. Introduction:

Agustin Muyco Elementary School is one of the elementary schools


found in Dingle, Iloilo. It is located at Sitio Hardin Brgy. Lincud, Dingle,
Iloilo. The area of the school is approximately 1,001 square meter and its
topography is hilly and flat. This school protect and promote the right of
every Filipino to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete basic
education. Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and
motivating environment.
Family, community and other stakeholders are actively engaged and
share responsibility for developing life-long learners.
II. Scanning Proper:
Here are some environmental programs that have been implemented in
the school:

a. ERDA Garden

The school have different stakeholders which encourage the parents to


plant vegetables on the vacant lot of the school (behind the principal’s
office). One of this is the Educational Research and Development
Assistance or ERDA Foundation, Inc., this stakeholder gives livelihood
program for the parents of the learners. They give seed saplings to the
parents to be planted on the vacant lot of the school. Their garden is
located at the back part of the principal’s office. Every year, the
foundation checked each group’s plot and their harvest.
b. GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

The school also has Gulayan sa Paralan, found behind the grade 4 –
grade 6 classrooms. The gulayan were managed by the students where
they plant different varieties of vegetables which they can harvest and
cook for themselves. This activity helped the students learn the
importance of nutrition and encourages them to have a healthier lifestyle
by consuming their homegrown produce.

III. Proposed Environmental Program:

Title: Sustainable and Eco-Friendly School for a Greener Future

Objectives: To create a sustainable and eco-friendly environment at


Agustin Muyco Elementary School for a greener future by educating the
pupils, teachers, parents, and local community on how to reduce
environmental impact and all about sustainability.

Program Components:

1. Recycling
Purpose: To encourage a clean, litter free school environment
and educate students about responsible waste management.
Activities:
Educate the students about recycling and the
benefits of recycling.
Create a recycling stations with bins and poster
for a green school idea.
Resources Needed: Recycle bins, posters on recycling, local
partnerships

2. Solid Waste Management Program


Purpose: To educate the learners about the different type of
waste product and how to protect themselves and others from
harmful waste.
Activities:
Add more recycling bins
Separate waste into recyclable, hazardous, and
biodegradable bins
Resources Needed: Recycle bins, posters on waste
management segregation, posters showing the effect of not
having proper waste disposal, local partnerships

3. Composting

Purpose: To eliminate food waste and make use as an organic


fertilizer.
Activities:
Educate the students on how to improve soil quality
and fertility
Start a classroom composting program

Resources Needed: Compost bin/ Compost pit, poster showing


the proper way of composting, local partnership.

4. Trash Pick-up Day

Purpose: Educate students to be aware how much litter ends up


on school grounds.
Activities:
Let the students outside the classroom before the
class end and pick up trash on the ground.

Resources Needed: Tongs, gloves, trash cans, schedule of


trash pick-up day.

Budget Estimation:

A 20,000-25,000 budget will cover the recycling bins, educational materials


or posters, tongs, gloves and other cleaning materials. Possible funding
sources includes barangay funds, Parent-Teacher Associations, stakeholders,
school canteen’s income.

Implementation Timeline:

 Phase 1 (Preparation and Planning): April 2025- June 2025


 Phase 2(Launch and Initial Activities): July 2025-October 2025
 Phase 3 (Monitoring and Maintenance): November 2025
onwards.
Expected Outcomes:

1. Reduced waste around the school through recycling and solid


waste management disposal.
2. Produce healthier vegetable with the use of organic fertilizer.
3. Maintain the cleanliness of the school through schedules trash
pick-up day.
4. Improved environmental knowledge and habits among students,
teachers, and the community not just in school but also to their
home.

This program is designed to help students understand how their actions


affect the environment and teach them to take actions to keep the
environment healthy, sustainable and eco-friendly for a greener future.
