DUAL PHASE PULSED

All Taiwan 262 “A Series” Dispensers are equipped with the Dual Phase Pulser.

Be sure that CPU DIP switch 6 position is set to ON for Dual Phase Pulser operation.

A battery test is initiated each time the dispenser handle is raised. If the test results in failure, an error
code is returned to the control console.

The standard battery test, initiated when the Manager's Mode is entered, is still functional but will not
cause an error code to be returned.

The following features are not available on the 262 “A Series”, Taiwan Dispenser:
Resettable Running Totals
Credit Price
Preset Buttons

Therefore, the following Modes are not used on the 262 “A Series”, Taiwan Dispenser and should be
disregarded:

NOTE:
As was requested, the software in the ^2" A Series” Dispenser to Taiwan was
modified to return special error codes to the control console. These codes indicate
bracelet errors, bad sale errors and battery test errors.

Unpredictable results may occur with a console that does not have
the necessary programming to recognize these codes.

CONSOLE OPERATION
When a Console is first connected to the 262A Dispenser, the Consoles' parameters for product
prices and display data must be downloaded to the Dispenser.

When the Dispenser is idle:

1. Turn the keyswitch to Manager Mode position
2. Turn the keyswitch back to Operation/Run position
This will prompt the Console to download price and display data.

Sale Authorization
Two levels of authorization are required before each sale can begin:
1. The control console must approve the sale
2. The Dispenser must be armed (key or permanent)

Console Approval
Each time sale approval is sent from the Console, the Console will download to the Dispenser:
1. product price
2. maximum delivery
3. slow flow offset
Except for slow flow offset, the downloaded values from the Console will always replace any
previous values set in the Dispenser.

Siow-Flow Offset
Position 7 on the CPU DIP switch determines the
slow flow offset control:

1. Set to ON - slow flow offset is determined by

programming in Mode 18 at the Dispenser. Any
data downloaded from the Console will not change
the Dispenser setting.

2. Set to OFF - slow flow offset will be

downloaded by the Console for each sale.

The Console cannot change the following on the Dispenser:

• configuration
• security codes
• security counters
• total salts
• pulses per unit volume
• error limits
• preset amounts
• shift changes

When a Dispenser is in the Manager Mode, it cannot communicate with the Console.
Product Prices and Price Changes from Console to Dispenser

• The price downloaded with each Console approval must match the price and method of

PAGE 5-4 262A Programming/Operating Manual Form 4406 - Version 3.0

TOKHEIM CORPORATION duly 1080 Rev. 06/25/90
payment stored in the Dispenser. When price(s) are changed, they are downloaded to the
Dispenser by the Console.

• If a Dispenser has a sale in progress, the price will not change. The new price(s) will be
sent by the console at the time of the next sale approval.

• If a Dispenser has no exit in progress, and the price change mode (set in MODE 25) allows
a price change with a lever raised, the price change will be accepted by the dispenser.

• After the new prices appear, a beep sounds and the new prices flash for 5 seconds.

Dispenser/Console Conflicts

Once a sale is begun by a customer and the Dispenser armed:

• The Console detects the customer selections, the current unit price for the product
and selected method of payment. Then the Console sends sale approval to the
Dispenser to allow the sale to begin.

• When the Console approves the sale it downloads to the Dispenser the product unit
price, slow flow offset (depending on DIP switch position) and maximum delivery.

• The Console cannot override a customer selection made at the Dispenser for product
or method of payment.

• If the product price sent by the Console does not match the unit price set in the
Dispenser, the Dispenser will not allow the sale to begin.

• The product prices and Method of Payment selections in the Console and at

the Dispenser must match before any sales can be conducted on the Dispenser.
If there is a difference:
• either the customer must change their selection to match the Console, or
• the Console must be changed to match the Dispenser.

PRESET SALES
The optional preset buttons are located on the side of the dispenser for each fueling position. Preset
buttons are used by the customer to select a specified dollar or volume amount. When a preset
amount is selected, the dispenser automatically stops dispensing fuel when the present amount is
reached.

The buttons are individually programmed to preset amounts in Mode 24. The buttons can be set for
dollar amounts, volume amounts, FILL or STOP.
1. Dollar Amounts
to. each button is set to a specified dollar amount
2. Volume Amounts
to. each button is set to a specified volume amount
3. FILL BUTTON
a. allows the dispenser to deliver fuel up to the programmed maximum delivery or the
maximum limit sent from the console if applicable.
b. Pressing the FILL button during a sale overrides any previous customer entered preset
and allows the sale to continue to the maximum delivery or the maximum limit sent from
the console if applicable.
4. STOP BUTTON
to. Pressing the STOP button causes a short tone to sound and the valves and motor to shut
off on the corresponding side of the dispenser.

A SALE CAN BE PRESET EITHER AT THE DISPENSER OR AT THE CONSOLE.

In Stand Alone operation, the Dispenser In Console operation, the Console can preset
must be equipped with preset buttons and a sale for a specified volume or dollar amount

The sale can begin when:
1. the Dispenser is armed
2. Console approval is received (if applicable)
3. a CASH/CREDIT button is pressed (if available)
(if preset is selected at the Console, the CASH/CREDIT button pressed at the Dispenser
MUST be the same as the one selected at the Console)

On all preset sales, the slow flow valve will be shut off when the full preset sale amount has
been dispensed.

Additive Presets
Mode 24 must be programmed to allow Additive Presets.

Additive presets
allow the customer to press the preset buttons in combinations until they add up to the desired
amount.

Examples:

• Customer desires $3.00 preset: press the $1 preset button 3 times.

• Customer desires $17.00 preset:

press the $10, $5, $1 and $1 preset buttons (10+5+1+1 = 17)

Non-Additive presets
accept only the amount of the last preset button pressed.

Example:

• If the customer pressed $10 then $5 then $1 preset buttons, only the $1 would appear
as the preset amount since the $1 preset button was the last button pressed.

Once a customer has begun dispensing fuel.

The preset buttons will go into a non-additive mode regardless of whether additive or nonadditive was
set in programming.

Example: While the customer is dispensing fuel, if they press a preset button:

and the amount dispensed is less than the selected dollar amount of the preset button;
the sale will continue until the preset amount has been reached. (EX. customer has $3.00
dispensed and presses $10 preset button, sale will continue until $10.00 (not $13.00) has been
reached. Note; the dispenser stopped at $10.00 acknowledging only the last preset button
pressed, ie non-additive).

and the amount dispensed is greater than the amount on the preset button;
the sale will automatically stop. The sale can be restarted by pressing a preset button greater than
the amount currently dispensed.
