GRADE 7
WEEKLY LESSON
COMPARISON BETWEEN ANIMAL AND PLANT CELLS
PLAN
This lesson discusses the difference between animal and plant cells.
7E MODEL
Time allotment: 4 hours (240 minutes) for 4 LESSON PLAN
meetings
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of the difference between
animal and plant
cells
B. Performance Standards
Employ appropriate techniques using the compound microscope to gather data
about very small objects
C. Learning Competencies
Differentiate plant and animal cells according to presence or absence of certain
organelles (S7LT-IIc-3)
Explain why the cell is considered the basic structural and functional unit of all
organisms (S7LT-IIe-5)
D. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
1.differentiate between plant and animal cells by recognizing the unique organelles found
in
each type;
2.explain how the presence or absence of specific organelles in plant and animal cells
contributes
to their respective function; and
3.articulate why cells are considered the basic structural and functional units of all
organisms,
using their edible models to illustrate how cellular structures support life processes.

IV.PROCEDURES
ELICIT (10
MINUTES)
Instructions: Begin by asking students to write down what they already know about cells,
including any specific structures or functions they can recall. Then, ask a few students to
share their thoughts with the class.
Guide Questions:
1. What are cells?
2. What do you know about plant and animal cells?
3. Can you name any parts of a cell?
ENGAGE (15
MINUTES)
Instructions: Show a short, engaging video that introduces the basic structure of plant
and animal cells, highlighting their differences.
Video Title: Introduction to Cells: The Grand Cell Tour
Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IlzKri08kk
Guide Questions:
1. What is the cell theory?
2. What is the difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
3. What are the main differences between plant and animal cells that you noticed?
4. Which cell organelles were highlighted in the video
EXPLORE (40
MINUTES)
Guide Questions:
1. What differences do you observe between the plant and animal cells?
2. Which organelles are present in one type of cell but not the other?
Worksheet Components:
Diagrams of plant and animal cells
List of observed organelles
Notes on the differences and similarities
EXPLAIN (40
MINUTES)
Activity: Guided Discussion and Diagram Explanation
ELABORATE (120
MINUTES)
Activity: Creating Edible Models of Animal and Plant Cells
Instructions: Students will create edible models of plant and animal cells as a group
using various food items. Provide them with a list of suggested food items to represent
different organelles (e.g., grapes for nuclei, jelly beans for mitochondria, gelatin for
cytoplasm).
Instructions: Representatives from each group will present their edible cell models to the
class, explaining the function of each organelle and how it differs between plant and
animal cells.
EXTEND
(ASSIGNMENT)
Activity: Creation of an Infographic on Plant and Animal Cells
Instructions: Students will create an infographic that summarizes the key differences
between plant and animal cells, including the unique organelles found in each and their
respective functions. They can use online such as Canva to design their infographics.
