Preliminary Activities

a. Prayer

Everybody stand up. (Students follow the teacher's request to

Mr. /Ms. ________, please lead the prayer. stand and start the prayer.)
Let us pray.
Students who have their own religious beliefs
may pray in silence.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit.
Student read the prayer posted on the screen Our heavenly father, we thank you for all
the multiple blessings that you have given
to us. For the infinite love from our parents,
caring teachers, friendly classmates and
good environment. Today, we are going to
do our daily activities in school. We pray
that you will guide us, give us healthy body
and mind so that we will be able to do our
endeavor in life. We asked for your
forgiveness, and we pray through our Lord.
Amen
Amen

Please gather some paper underneath your chair

before you take a seat. We should have a setting (Students will pick some pieces of paper
in the classroom that encourages learning. and arrange their seats).

In addition to that class, check your seating

arrangement.

b. Greetings

Good day, students!

How are you doing?
Are you all excited? We’re fine, Sir.
Yes, Sir!
Really? I’m excited too.

In our class for today, you should be curious,

prepared at all times, and attentive to details.

Can I assume that one applies to everyone?

Yes, Sir
c. Checking of attendance

Before we proceed to our discussion and

activities, let’s check your attendance first.

Class monitor, can you tell me who is

absent/excuse for today’s class? (The class monitor then tells the teacher
who is absent.)
I'm glad to hear that!

I have also provided you with name tags, and

I’m reminding all of you to please wear them
during our class instruction. Am I clear?
Yes Sir!
d. Setting of Standards
For us to have a smooth and organized
discussion these are the rules that being set.
Can you read the rules?

1. Listen attentively to the teacher and

fellow students when sharing
information in the class.
2. Be alert and active.
3. Focus and avoid talking unless
necessary.
4. Respect the viewpoints and
responses of your fellow students.
5. When you want to speak, raise your
hand.

Very impressive. You will have wonderful

experiences if you follow the rules. I'm going to
post these classroom guidelines now so you can
always be reminded of them.

Four groups will be formed today, and based on

the colour on your name tags; you will be put
into one of them.

The RED group will be sitting here, followed by

the BLUE group, the GREEN group and the
YELLOW group. That will be your permanent
group for today’s activities. Scoreboard will be
utilized to update you on your group’s points.
You will be given corresponding points in every
activity.
Stars will serve as your points and X as
deduction of points for not following our
classroom rules.

I will be counting down 10 seconds. All of you

should be in your group.
Now, go to your groups. (Then students find their group mates and
look for their assigned chair.)

Understanding what we hope to accomplish at
the end of the lesson is crucial.
Class, kindly read the lesson objectives.

Thus, the objectives for learning will serve as a

roadmap for the topics that you will cover in
today's class.

Yes
C. Presenting examples of the new lesson

I will present you with a series of pictures, all

you have to do is to observe every picture and
write down a one word observation on the bond
papers that I provided earlier.

After writing all of your observations you will

raise your papers once I give you the signal.
Then I will select a student to present his or her
work.

Am I clear?

Okay let’s start.

First picture.

Second picture.

Green and Yellow team expected answer:

Third picture.

Okay, you can now raise your papers.

I am aware that your observations may differ or

be similar, but it appears that you all had the
same observation. The common word that you
wrote is SIMILAR, SAME and EQUAL.

Very good

Now, who wants to share his or her observations

with the class?
Okay Mr/Ms__, will you share what you have
observe.

Thank you Mr/Ms____

Let's give him/her a good job Clap.
1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3... GOOD JOB!

Based on the pictures I have shown, who can tell

what is our topic for today's class? Please raise
your hand.

Okay Mr/Ms____ what do you think is our topic

for today?
Very good! Thank you Mr/Ms___

Is everyone ready for our next part of the

lesson?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #1

Now, with your group we will have an activity

called Match Me Please!

Students have to match similar figures.

Figures will be flashed on the screen and each
group will be given a set of figures to find which
figures are similar to what is flashed on the
screen. Your groups will also be given a
Cartolina and a marker. After that, you will paste
all similar figures on the “SIMILAR” part and not
similar figures on the “NOT SIMILAR” part.
SIMILAR NOT SIMILAR

You will be given 5 minutes to do this activity. A Yes Sir!

maximum of 2 students is allowed to go on the
board to paste the answers. Before the time
ends, all of the groups must have pasted their
answers on the board. After the given time,
group representatives are not allowed to paste Explanation of Red team:
their answers.
The figures that are similar to the figure
LAMP are figures COME, PLAY and SING.
Am I clear? Aside from they have similar shape their
angles are congruent, and their
corresponding sides are proportional. The
figures that are not similar are figures SHOT
The figure for Red and Blue team and HARD they don’t have congruent
corresponding angles and the
corresponding sides are not proportional.

Explanation of Green team:

The figures that are similar to the figure

LOVE are figures HATS, BURN and CARE.
Aside from they have similar shape their
angles are congruent, and their
corresponding sides have the same Scale
factor. The figures that belong to “not
similar” are figures PAIN and KIND they
don’t have congruent corresponding angles
and the corresponding sides are not
proportional.

The figure for Green and Yellow team

Explanation of Blue team:

Red team and our group have the same

explanation. The figures we have selected
have similar shape their angles are
congruent, and their corresponding sides
have common ratio or scale factor which
means they are proportional. Only figures
SHOT and HARD belongs to “not similar”

Explanation of Yellow team:

Green team and our group have the same

explanation. The figures we have selected
have similar shape their angles are
congruent, and their corresponding sides
are proportional. Only the figures PAIN and
KIND that belongs to “not similar” since the
corresponding angles are not congruent
and the sides doesn’t have a common ratio
or scale factor.

Your time starts now!(5 minutes)

(Students raising their hands)

Yes they are Sir, as congruent figures are

always similar.

do not have the same scale factor for each
corresponding sides hence they are not
similar.

time ended.

(Note:
Similar figures vs. Congruent Figures
Similar Figures
 The figures have the same shape.
 The corresponding angles are congruent.
 The corresponding sides are proportional.
 It is denoted by ~ "is similar to"

Congruent Figures
 The figures have the same shape and
same measurements.
 The corresponding angles are congruent.

 It is denoted by ≅ "is congruent to")

 The corresponding sides are congruent.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #2

Now, each group should pick one representative

to explain why the selected figures are similar
and some are not.

These are the follow up questions.

 Why do you think those figures are

similar? Why the others are not?

The first group to present is the Red team,

followed by the Green team, Blue team and last
but not the least Yellow team.

Am I Clear?

Okay, May I call on the representative of Red

team to explain your group answer in front?

Very good, Thank you for that wonderful

explanation.

Now let’s call on the Green Team (Students are raising their hands)

Convert:
7 meters = 700 centimeters
12 meters = 1200 centimeters

700
=10

1200
=10
120

Therefore, the Classroom Floor and the

Floor Plan are similar.
Impressive, thank you for that explanation
Green team.
Now let’s move on to the representative of Blue
team.

Very Good Blue team! The corresponding sides are proportional,

Now let’s give the floor to the Yellow group and the corresponding angles are
congruent. This can be determined by
solving the scale factor of the
corresponding sides of the given figures.

The concept of proportion can be used to

many comparisons. The process by which
architects and engineers match the
dimensions of the sketch to the real site or
structure is a prime illustration of this.

Well done everyone all of your explanations are

correct and because of that your groups will all
receive three stars.

Follow up questions:

Are the congruent figures are considered as

similar figure? Please raise your hand if you
want to answer.

Okay Mr/Ms__ .Please share your insight

regarding to the question.

Very good! Mr/Ms______.

Okay, you can now all go back to your proper

seats.

Please get your notebooks and answer the
following questions. No, they are not.

Based on the similar figures you have pasted on

the board. Figures LAMP and PLAY are similar.
While the Figures LOVE and PAIN are not. I want
you to calculate the scale factor for each of the
corresponding sides of the figures LAMP and
PLAY to prove that they are similar. Also
calculate the scale factor of LOVE and PAIN to
prove that they are not similar.

Are my instructions clear?

I will give 5 minutes to determine the scale

factor. And while you are solving it, I will roam
around to monitor and check your notes.
Do you any have questions?

Okay, your time starts now. (5 minutes)

Time is up! Finish or not please raise your pens.

Who among you here was able to determine the
scale factor of the given figures? Please raise
your right hand

Okay, Mr/Ms____ what is your answer? Please

write your solutions on how to get the scale
factor on the board.
Thank you Mr/Ms____.
For those students who were able to solve the
scale factor. Do you have the same answer to
Mr/Ms______?
Let’s give Mr/Ms____ a Good Job clap
1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3... GOOD JOB!

Are there any questions or violent reactions with

regards to finding scale factor?

G. Finding practical applications of

concepts and skills in daily living

I want you solve this problem in your notebook.

I'll give you 5 minutes to answer this one.
Am I clear?

Aldrin was asked to draw a floor plan in their

classroom if there are any changes he wants to
make. It is believed that the classroom floor plan
drawn by Aldrin is similar to their classroom and
is considered rectangular. The classroom width
is 7 meters while its length is 12 meters. The
floor plan width is 70 cm and the length is 120
cm. Find the scale factor of its corresponding
sides.
