Symptom

This note shows you a quick start guide of SAP Warehouse Insights. By referring to the steps in this note,
you can understand an end-to-end process of using SAP Warehouse Insights. Note that these steps are not
exhaustive but from a best-practice point of view. You can adjust them based on your business scenarios.

End to End Process: Optimization Process

To use the optimization process of SAP Warehouse Insights, follow the steps below:

1. Connect to SAP EWM (This step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this
step.)
For information regarding connectivity, see Connecting to SAP EWM.

2. In SAP EWM, prepare the data for the warehouse layout.


You need to make sure that warehouse-layout-relevant data is defined in SAP EWM, for example, storage
bins and edges etc.

3. Determine the resources and queues that will be selected for optimization in SAP Warehouse Insights.
In this step, no changes in the system are made. Have a look at the resources and queues in SAP EWM and
note down the resources and queues that you want to optimize with SAP Warehouse Insights.

4. In SAP EWM, download the basic and configuration data for SAP Warehouse Insights via in CSV files
using SAP Note 2722858. The data to be downloaded includes for example storage bins, resources, and
resource types and so on.

5. In SAP Warehouse Insights, create a warehouse number.

6. In SAP Warehouse Insights, define settings for connecting to SAP EWM. (This step isn’t available for SAP
Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

7. In SAP Warehouse Insights, upload CSV files of basic and configuration data that you downloaded in step
4.
For more information, see Upload Warehouse Data.

8. In SAP Warehouse Insights, fetch transaction data from SAP EWM. The date range should be within 7
days. (This step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

9. In SAP Warehouse Insights, build a travel distance network for your warehouse number.
For more information, see Manage Travel Distance Networks.

10. In SAP Warehouse Insights, check the generated warehouse layout and warehouse operations KPIs.
For more information, see Warehouse Layout and Warehouse Operations Overview - Off-Line Data.

11. In SAP Warehouse Insights, define general optimization setting.


For more information, see Define General Settings in Define Optimization Settings.

12. In SAP Warehouse Insights, define settings for simulated optimization.


To simulate the current optimization settings is the best way to setup the live or real-time optimization.
For more information, see Define Off-Line Settings in Define Optimization Settings.

13. In SAP Warehouse Insights, run simulated optimization and analyze the simulated results.
To view the simulated results is the best way to run the live or real-time optimization.

14. In SAP Warehouse Insights, define live or real-time optimization settings based on simulated results in
previous steps. (This step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

15. In SAP Warehouse Insights, activate live or real-time optimization settings. (This step isn’t available for
SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

16. In SAP Warehouse Insights, view the optimized real-time results of warehouse order assignments. (This
step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

End to End Process: Bin Coordinate Definition

1. In SAP EWM, prepare the data for the warehouse layout.


You need to make sure that warehouse-layout-relevant data is defined in SAP EWM, for example, storage
bins and storage bin types etc. However, you don't have to define bin coordinates yet.

2. In SAP EWM, download the basic and configuration data for SAP Warehouse Insights via in CSV files
using SAP Note 2722858. The data to be downloaded includes for example storage bins, storage bin types,
and storage bin control.

3. In SAP Warehouse Insights, create a warehouse number.

4. In SAP Warehouse Insights, upload CSV files of basic and configuration data that you downloaded in step

5. In SAP Warehouse Insights, define bin coordinates.

End to End Process: Heatmap

1. Optional: Connect to SAP EWM (This step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please
skip this step.)
This step helps you fetch confirmed warehouse orders and tasks directly from SAP EWM, so that you don’t
need to upload them manually.

For information regarding connectivity, see Connecting to SAP EWM.

2. In SAP EWM, prepare the data for the warehouse layout.


You need to make sure that warehouse-layout-relevant data is defined in SAP EWM, for example, storage
bins and edges etc.

3. In SAP EWM, download the basic and configuration data for SAP WI via in CSV files using SAP Note
2722858. The data to be downloaded includes for example storage bins, resources, and resource types and
so on.

4. In SAP Warehouse Insights, create a warehouse number.

5. In SAP Warehouse Insights, upload CSV files of basic and configuration data that you downloaded in step
3.
For more information, see Upload Warehouse Data.

6. Optional: In SAP Warehouse Insights, fetch transaction data from SAP EWM. The date range should be
within 7 days. (This step isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users. Please skip this step.)

7. In SAP Warehouse Insights, view your heatmap.

For more information, see Heatmap.

End to End Process: Resource Indoor Positioning

Note: This process isn’t available for SAP Warehouse Insights trial users.

1. Optional: Connect to SAP EWM


This step helps you to view the resource execution information when you are visualizing the resource position
in the "Resource Indoor Positioning" app.

For information regarding connectivity, see Connecting to SAP EWM.

2. In SAP EWM, prepare the data for the warehouse layout.


You need to make sure that the data that is relevant for the warehouse layout is defined in SAP EWM, for
example, storage bins and bin coordinates. You can also choose to define bin coordinates with the end to
end process "Bin Coordinates Definition".

3. In SAP EWM, download the basic data and configuration data for SAP Warehouse Insights via CSV files

using SAP Note 2722858. The data to be downloaded includes storage bins, resources, and resource types,
for example. The historical transactional data such as confirmed warehouse orders and tasks are not needed.

4. In SAP Warehouse Insights, create a warehouse number.

5. In SAP Warehouse Insights, upload the CSV files with the basic data and the configuration data that you
downloaded in step 3.

6. In your IoT service, make the recommended settings.

7. Connect to your IoT service.
