 Introduction

Language is our primary source of communication. It is the method through which we

share Our ideas and thoughts with others. There are thousands of language in the world. Every
country has Their own national language in addition to a variety of local languages spoken and
understood by their People in different regions, some languages are spoken by millions of
people and others by only a few Thousand. In global world, the importance of English can’t be
denied and ignored since English is the Most common language spoken everywhere.

Even though in Angola we have many languages including: Kikongo, Umbundu,

Lingala, Portuguese and so on. Most of the people just want to learn English and they forget
about their native languages. That is why I made some searches and I want to talk about why do
people want to learn English and what is its importance for someone’s life.

1. Why do people in Angola back down of Studying English?

In Angola, if we ask who likes English, and who wants to speak this language very well,
many people will say yes to this question. But sometimes in our society we may see people that
are interested but after some time they just back down.

According with my searches here are three of some reasons why people back down of
studying English:

 Studying English only at the center of formation

There are some people that are interested in this language, but they only depend in what
the teacher is going to give to them. And comes a time that this person won´t be searching about
the lessons, the evolution of his or her speech will be slow, and comes a time that this person will
be tired of studying something is taking much time to speak very well.

 The teaching way

a) According with my searches and what I have seen, there are people interested to study
English, but the way that some centers teach the English language may be the cause
that some people come to give up of studying this language. There are some centers or
teachers that teach English only focusing in grammar, and some centers in Angola don´t
teach the English pronunciation rightly. Sometimes the one who is learning stays
confuse about what is the right way to pronounce a word. Taking this person to back
down by thinking that English is very complicated.

b) I may also say that the way that we learnt Portuguese, is very different from the way
that we learn English in some centers. When we were children, we learnt Portuguese
starting with the phonetic, the combination of the letters, the formation of the words and
so on. We had the structure to speak Portuguese very well, but in the most of the centers
we learn English with formed phrases, and sometimes we don´t have the good tips to do
a correct reading of the words and the phrases. Taking people to back down by thinking
that English is very complicated.

 Bad advices

When somebody is studying English without aims and motivation, easily will back down
when someone will come giving bad advices like: you will never speak English very well, your
English will never be like that guy´s English, English will not take you anywhere, and so on.

2. The importance of English in our society

1. English is the language of the media industry

Because of the prominence of Hollywood in global media, an enormous amount of films,

TV shows And popular songs are written in English. That´s way if you speak English, and you
are selling products, offering services in English, it can be achieved by many people around the
world.

2. English is the language of the Internet

English is particularly an important language for those who use the internet. Many
contents on internet are Written in English. So those who search things on the internet using the
English language will find many contents than those who search in one another language.

3. Travelling is a lot easier with a good knowledge in English

Imagine you are a Spanish person on holiday in Thailand, while your hotel receptionist
might not Be able to answer your question in Spanish. It is likely they will be able to answer
your question in English.

4. English is one of the most important language for business

Whether you are a business owner, student or employee, English is important in the
Business world. English is considered of the most important business language due to being the

defector language of the United States and the official language of the UK, Canada, India and
South America.

5. With English, you can study all over the world

Since English is spoken in so many different countries there are thousands of schools and
Universities around the world that offer programmers in English, and if you speak English
fluently you will be able to study and improve your academic degree in those countries that
speak the English language.

6. English gives you access to multiple cultures

Good knowledge of English will allow you to access films, music and literature from
hundreds of Countries around the globe.

7. English opens new career opportunities

First and foremost, learning English can help you to find more career opportunities.
These days, the job market is global many companies need employees who can communicate
with partners and client all over the world. Very often, that means finding employees who speak
English. By learning English, you could become a translator, a language teacher or an English
marketing professional for a global company. Learning English is an important step forward to
all of your goals.

Conclusion

After my searches, I may say that English is one international language that contributes a
lot to what is the achieve of someone´s personal goals. English is important because allows us
to have access to many opportunities of career, also allows us to easily communicate with
people in many countries, because it is an international language. With English and an
association with our academic our technical formation, we will not have boundaries to ensure
that our personal goals come true.
